Publisher's Summary

As a caring parent, it is your priority to understand if your child is among the 20 percent of children born with a nervous system highly aware and quick to react to everything.

“The childhood of someone who is not recognized as a highly sensitive child is very difficult, and unconditional love for your children is not enough: You need to be prepared and know exactly how to raise them.”– Lara Clegg

As a psychotherapist specializing in supporting children ages three to 17, Lara Clegg has written this book to help highly sensitive children and their parents (whether they are highly sensitive themselves or not) make the most of this magnificent gift.

“It is no use explaining to them that they are 'too sensitive' or 'too shy' or 'too intense' because it will make them feel inadequate and they will try to change and when they fail to do so they will feel increasingly isolated and overwhelmed with shame.” - Lara Clegg

This unnecessary suffering, which the child will carry for the rest of his or her life, can be saved by taking the right approach.

Lara Clegg’s Raising a Highly Sensitive Child book approaches hypersensitivity in children in 19 chapters, which are bundled into three parts:

  • Part I - Understanding and Recognizing Symptoms
  • Part II - Best Parenting Strategies in Practice
  • Part III - Best Tips to Help Your Kid Handle This Gift

After listening to this book, you can recognize all the symptoms that your highly sensitive children have developed (such as discomfort to loud noises, sensory processing disorder, anxiety, insomnia, environmental and emotional sensitivity), helping them in their big challenges, such as the proper integration in the school environment and building true and lasting relationships.

Absolutely PAINFUL

How on earth they chose this voice to narrate I’ll never know. Can’t even listen.

Duped

I was duped into this book. It is read by a robot. The story is something you could write. Terrible

Great info

Such a helpful book for me and my HSC. However I did not enjoy the audio being computerized.

Good content but annoying to listen to on Audible

This book is filled with good information, but if you plan on listening to it on Audible, it is annoying to listen to; it must be read by a computer. It's difficult to get through as as result. Unfortunate.

Robot Narrarator

I pick titles because I like when the author narrates.
If this is the author narrating I believe she is a robot.
The information is good but it’s hard to get past the mechanical voice that pauses and blends words together.

The best teacher

When my son was born, I was terrified. And now that he is growing into a toddler, I really wanted to be prepared to be the best mother and this audiobook made it possible for me to learn a lot.

It makes it easier

I am a single mother so raising my little boy has been very challenging now that he is in such a complicated age, I really needed some guidance and this audiobook was a perfect guide. I am grateful for it.

It has helped us communicate better

We, as parents, should never feel like our kids are just there to listen to us and obey. That is not the case, it is our duty as parents to try to understand them and find common ground.

Very effective strategies

I was very concerned about my kid’s upbringing and I truly want to be the best parent in the world, so this helped a lot.

Great content but narration could have been better.

This has some really useful information about highly sensitive children and some ideas to implement. I struggled with the narration as at times it seemed like a robot was reading it! I’m not sure what was done post production but I felt there were points when there was a lack of punctuation in the correct places and words seemed almost clipped to fit the book into a shorter length. Having said all of this the content was good and I would definitely recommend.

Read by the author?

The book is a computerised voice not a persons voice. Can’t listen to a whole book like that.
Very disappointed. 0/5

computer voice read, could be more helpful

while the content was great, i feel there could have been more specific strategies to help parents with a HSC - the majority of content was describing HSC’s (which to be fair was useful). the computer-read audio makes it very difficult to listen to and absorb.
