The first four episodes from the classic BBC Radio comedy starring Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden, Ron Moody and Pat Lancaster. Between 1958 and 1964, 'Beyond Our Ken' lit up the airwaves. A madcap mix of sketches and songs, it remains as funny today as when it was first broadcast. In these 4 episodes, the very first, you can have some fiscal fun with 'The Income Tax Show', plot some time away with 'Kenneth Williams' Holiday Bureau' and take singing lessons with Kenneth Horne. You can find out about Kenneth Horne's many eventful weeks; learn about atomic power with Professor Stanley Unwin; join roving reporter Cecil Snaith; flip through the pages of the 'Sketch Book 1908' and appreciate Art with the help of Charles and Rodney. With musical entertainment from Pat Lancaster and The Malcolm Mitchell Trio, join genial host Kenneth Horne and his ensemble in this fantastic forerunner to 'Round the Horne'.
Would you listen to Beyond Our Ken: The Collector's Edition Series 1 again? Why?
Yes. The jokes come thick and fast and it is difficult to keep up with them.
What did you like best about this story?
No story; just a series of radio sketches which, apart from the Goons, represented the best in radio comedy at the time
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is a scream from beginning to end.
Any additional comments?
This is 1950/60s radio comedy at its best. The series became Round the Horne during the 1960s with the same basic format. Do not listen to on a train or in public places. People will think you are mad when you giggle so much!!!
