In The Innocents, book two of The Pandemic Series, ISIS terrorists continued to wage the Final Jihad, infecting innocent people around the world. The highly contagious form of the plague has been genetically modified - to be the perfect killer.

In Level 6, book three of The Pandemic Series, the pandemic has hit a brick wall, but not because it's burned itself out. Rather, it's running out of victims. Social distancing is the only way to avoid a gruesome fate. Unfortunately, in a dystopian world where resources are scarce and scavenging is a way of life, every moment away from where you live could result in your death from either the disease, or your fellow man.

Quietus concludes The Pandemic Series. For Mac and Hunter, and all mankind, there is no means of avoiding the final death blow brought about by the spread of the deadly plague.

A Near Perfect Series

Quietus is the thrilling conclusion of the Pandemic Series by Bobby Akart.  Featuring Mack and Hunter's continued quest to save the world while protecting themselves.

I was eagerly awaiting this book. I wanted to know how the series ended really bad.  Akart wrote these characters to the point where I felt like I knew them.  It felt like they hadn't called me in a while and I wanted to check in on them to figure out if they were still alive. 

Quietus took a similar approach than some of Akart's other books.  1-to-2 people against the world.  Everyone is against them and the odds are abysmal.  But somehow, with sweat, tears, and back-breaking work, things might be better one day.  I enjoyed Quietus as much as the other books in this series and I was happy with where Akart left it. 

I reached out to Akart upon finishing the book to ask him about the "finish".  I knew that things were left open just enough to give readers a feeling of completion but leaving the door cracked so that we could "check in" on Mack and Hunter's progress later on.  Akart confirmed that there could be other books based on this, but didn't say any were currently in progress. 

I'm a little sad to let my 'friends' go at the end of this book.  As I mentioned earlier, I really felt like these were real people at the edge of the world.  Leave it to Bobby Akart to make me miss people that don't even exist.  Polish that off with Farrell and Adams' narration and you're golden.  A near perfect series for post-apocalyptic and medical thriller fans alike.

Almost Perfect

The Pandemic series is one of my favorite ever! It has a wonderful range of action, political idiocy, and ominous danger, broken up with plenty of appropriate comedy to lighten the mood from time to time, and you don't spend too much time with anyone of those.

I normally wait to get my one credit each month for a new book without spending extra, but with this one I had to get each book in the series immediately after finishing the one before it, and I used almost all my spare time listening to it.

***SPOILER ALERT***

I really like the lack of cliffhangers. Most every time if there was a cliffhanger, the answer came immediately in the next chapter. Sadly though, the one thing I didn't like about this book, the last in the series, was that it feels somewhat like a cliffhanger to me, in that the series story line doesn't feel totally complete since it ends with the decision they are going to provide the cure to other people besides Americans somehow, but we don't get to see it happen. There was a climax where they attacked Snow's compound, but that felt more like a midpoint to me. I thought a more fitting final struggle and climax would be the struggle to get the cure to other parts of the world successfully, and to finish dealing with the ISIS who released the plague in the first place to a definite conclusion. Because of the difficulties that could arise along the way on their journey; the United States government wanting to keep the cure strictly for Americans for a year or two at least, the terrorists still roaming the country who'd want to secure the cure for their people only, seeking to let everyone else die off, the mistrust of isolated groups with no outside communication, other groups who'd want to take the cure vials they do have for themselves or force her to reproduce more strictly for their group so they can be independent from the United States government, and protected against the plague, the moral dilemma that could come up of having to kill more of the few humans left in the world in order be successful in getting the cure spread around the globe; there is just so much there for a very fulfilling story. I really hope there's one more book added to the series!!! It could be called something like, "Whose cure?" or "A Cure for Whom?" I know it would be a riveting story!

Fantastic Series!

Must read! Characters that you can't get enough of... you want them to be your friends, heck! You want to be them!! Quietus did not disappoint! It's filled with action, intrigue and friendship. Enjoy!

Captivating

I love Bobby Akart's books, especially now that he has cut most of the cussing from his books. This series is awesome. I drive 2 hours to work one way 3 days a week and this series made me look forward to getting up at 4:30am just so I could get in the truck to listen. This series is excellent all the way around. The only bad thing I can say about it is at the end of book 4, you think there's a book 5 coming to finish the story, but there's not. It kinda seemed book 4 didn't draw closure to this series. He definitely left the story open to at least another book. Anyway, I highly recommend.

There are some concerns...

I enjoyed the story! It was hard to stop listening. At the same time I was dismayed that nearly all of the antagonists or unethical characters had ethnic last names. That fact was more apparent in this book than the other three and I found it unsettling. Maybe this was done tongue-in-cheek but it wasn’t entirely clear. All in all a good read but with some unsettling implications.

When is the next in the series coming out? Very well written plot! As always enjoyed!

Fast paced. But what happens next? Did the cure work more than once? Another book needed. but series is over. Only complaints are book is a liitle short and characters a bit one dimensional.

It's not over till it's over!

I must admit, I finished this last week and can only write up my review now! The simple fact is... I'm not ready for this to be over, I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters, I just couldn't gather my thoughts enough to actually sit down and put into words what I felt!! Plus it's been super busy at home and I didn't have an hour to sit and do this review.

So, here we are at book 4 and these characters have firmly cemented themselves in my heart. After the ending of the last book, I eagerly dived in to see if that character survived!! Well, I'm not going to say because that would be a spoiler ;) Anyway, this one sees Mac racing to find a cure or a vaccine for the plague, Hunter is called to action, there's an egotistical man who is trying to impregnate as many women as he can, his sons are kidnapping girls and bringing them to the mountain, poor Janie ends up as a victim and Hunter needs to try and save her before it's too late. There's an awful lot more happening but I can't get into it because it will spoil everything!!!

Plot wise, I found this one to be more action packed and thrilling than the previous 3. All along the story has followed the progression of the plague and the characters, this one has a lot more tense scenes, a lot more edge of your seat action and a lot more suspense. I few through it and didn't want it to end.

Again, as with nearly all of this authors work, the characters are awesome. Mac is driven, smart and not afraid to do what's needed. I loved what she did at the end, and I felt like it stuck true to her character. Hunter meanwhile, shines a bit more here. He is a badass and I'm glad he got to be one again!! Each character was well written and developed and are firmly on my favourites. I really didn't want to say goodbye, and with the way the book ended, I'm hoping we may see them again!!

In all, this series is fantastic. The level of detail and research that went into it was phenomenal and it showed. The author has created a scenario that is feasible and one that frightened me. It's a series that made me think and opened my eyes to how easy it would be for a pandemic to happen. Seriously.... go read this series, you won't be disappointed!!

Narration wise, it's 5 star all the way for John David Farrell. He read the book extremely well, was easy to listen to and follow, and had plenty of tones and voices to make this an enjoyable listen. Kris Adams is a 4 star rating, simply because she didn't differentiate the females enough. She has a pleasant voice and reads the story well, it's just that all the girls sounded the same!!

As the world falls into anarchy

As the world falls into anarchy the worst comes out of some and best out of others. Government disaster plans are used to serve the ambitions of the crooked political leadership. Our heroes find themselves caught between trying to do good in a crooked system and doing what's best for them, their new family, and their country.

This book will leave you shaking your head at the depravity of men, and wanting the next book to be released.
