About this listen

Imagine if Dave Pilkey wrote Lord of the Rings - that's how most describe Quezalcorp.

Initially started as a Dungeons & Dragons campaign gone horribly wrong, Quezalcorp: A Tale of Dicks and Douchebags evolves into a story all its own. Join a group of unlikely heroes who through the help of hard work, determination, and a lot of sheer dumb luck, find their way to save a crumbling world. Filled with satire, celebrity cameos, and just a little bit of heart, Quezalcorp: A Tale of Dicks and Douchebags is a story for all ages...except not all ages. Maybe like 17 and up. We say a lot of bad words in there.

I read this book a long time ago but just finished the audiobook, and I am always struck by the Gobstopper-like feel of this book. You know, those Willy Wonks hard candies that start out one flavor but as you suck on them turn into another? This book is a bromance wrapped in adventure wrapped in comedy. Some of the situations are silly, but the bonds are very real between the characters. I like to think of this book as what would happen if Dave Pilkey (whom the author likens it to in the blurb for the book) and Lemony Snicket had a love child who wrote an epic tale. We have the tickle of our funny bones and an author who breaks the fourth wall many a time, plus several tragedies packed in a grand journey... so maybe there’s some Tolkien in there too? All in all, it’s a captivating story that I never tire of. The narration provided by author Scottye Moore brings the novel to life in new and exciting ways. I got a better feel of the characters and their personalities in the personification of their voices. Every single character had their own tone and accent, and it kept me awake and entertained on a very long trip. I can’t wait for the next one, ‘Quezalcorp Risen’ to be turned into an audiobook as well!
