Publisher's summary

Phyllida Nash reads Sarah Bradford’s absorbing and authoritative portrait of the Queen’s life and sixty-year reign - complete and unabridged. The Queen’s story is our history: she was not born to be Queen but, a media star since the age of three, she has been the most famous woman in the world for all of our lives. In this definitive account, acclaimed Royal author Sarah Bradford offers a vivid window into the key moments of British and world history during the Queen’s sixty-year reign, a mixture of happiness and crisis, but one defined by her extraordinary love and commitment to Britain and the Commonwealth. Drawing on a unique collection of archives and interviews, interwoven with the latest research, she gives us fascinating insights into Royal life, from wars and political scandal, to the death of Diana and the triumph of Prince William’s wedding to Catherine Middleton.

This is the biography the Queen deserves: remarkable, warm and, above all, inspiring.

Not as good as I hoped

There are two books on Elizabeth II released at almost the same time and I read both. If you are only getting one, choose the other one, written by Sally Bedell Smith. The anectdotes in it are better - although they both lay out the same historic material and take a slightly differing view of those events. I found it interesting to read both for those differences.

good but

good but I wish it was more about the queen herself and not just the political and world events that happened during her reign.

Some Nuggets, Some Fluff

Some interesting material at the beginning but eventually turned to tabloids for material. Worth listening but not the best bio of the Queen. Denigrates Prince Charles whenever possible.

Nothing new here

Interesting. Well written and narrated but nothing new here. Maybe later a biographer will come out with a book that tells more of The Queen's personal life and marriage...... and less about her public life but this is not it.

Boring

Gave up on this, too much talk of politics and other things, rather than the Queen.
