Publisher's summary

One of Shaw's most enduring works, Pygmalion is an insightful comedy of class relations and perceptions, as played out between a Cockney flower girl and the irascible speech professor who has taken her on as a pet project. Described by critics as "a play of great vitality and charm", Pygmalion inspired the award-winning stage and film productions of Lerner and Loewe's musical, My Fair Lady.

An L.A. Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring Roslyn Alexander, Shannon Cochran, Denise du Maurier, Rebecca MacLean, David New, Kenneth J. Northcott, Nicholas Pennell, Nicholas Rudall, Ben Whitehouse, and Laura Whyte.

Bilious Pidgeon

On the surface, the prospect of listening to a live performance of Pygmalion, one which could be shared with my students, should be exciting. Absolutely not the case here. Shaw's script, unfortunately, is brutalized by the flagrant omission of many of his lines. Listening to the play, with a recent copy of the play in hand, I was mortified when I realized I would not be able to use this performance. Too many lines cut. Personally, I would have appreciated someone informing me that this was an "abridged" version of the play; it would have saved me the price of a download.

This play came alive with audible

Enjoyed listening to this play instead of reading it. Audible does not give stage directions but since its read as a play (uaing different voices for different characters, ect) you can imagine where and what's going on without the stage direction.

Listener Beware!

There is nothing wrong with the performance - but the play is abridged, which is not what the word 'Original' in the title line suggests!

My enjoyment of this wonderful, classic play was spoiled by having a key chunk of the script cut in such a savage edit.

Enjoyable!

I love the film My Fair Lady so listening to this was great - a little strange without the songs, but nevertheless really enjoyable, with a great cast...Prof. Higgins my fav!
