Publisher's summary

Number-one Essence best-selling author K'wan presents three explosive stories in one collection.

Love & Gunplay

After news of the attempted murder of his estranged fiancée, Gucci, Animal has two things on his mind: love and gunplay.

With the help of his mistress, the deadly Red Sonja, Animal manages to elude his captors in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, and washes up on the shores of Miami. He's one step closer to home, but it may as well be a world away. Animal is still a wanted fugitive, and getting to New York undetected proves to be trickier than he thought.

This all changes when he meets an old friend of Red Sonja's, a New Orleans refugee named Diamonds. Diamonds promises to provide Animal with safe passage from Miami to New York as well as all the firepower he will need to settle his blood debt, but he also brings something far more valuable to the table: the name of the man who shot Gucci. Diamonds holds the key to solving the mystery of what really happened that tragic night in Harlem, but the information comes at a price.

Animal finds himself swept up into a deadly game of cat and mouse set in the glamorous Miami underworld of sex, drugs, and violence, where cash is king and death is always lurking. His only ally is a mysterious stripper named Reign, who harbors a secret that threatens to change everything.

Purple Reign

Don B is the owner and headliner of a successful yet notorious record label called Big Dawg Entertainment, whose stars all seem to meet with unfortunate ends under mysterious circumstances. Don B made his fortune off music and his name from the trail of broken lives he's left in his wake. He is a predator in every sense of the word. Don B's wealth and power make him believe he's untouchable, but all this changes during a business trip to Miami and a chance meeting with a stranger who calls herself Reign.

Little Nikki Grind

After years of work on the streets, Felon has finally saved up enough money to retire from the illegal life and pursue a legitimate career in the music industry. Having just inked a distribution deal for his fledgling entertainment company, Freak Show, Felon and a few of his closest friends decide to go out and celebrate at a new gentleman's club in New York called Purple City. It's at Purple City where he meets a young dancer named Nikki, who has a story to tell that will turn Felon's world upside down. When Felon is sucked into Nikki's web of sex, deceit, and murder, it threatens to ruin everything he's worked so hard to build and to take him out of the game permanently.

Disappointed

The narrator did not do this book justice. I was disappointed not that she isn't a good narrator but not for stories that should be hatdcore. I think love stories would suit her voice better.

I should have known

What would have made Purple City, Volumes 1-3 better?

A new narrator!!!!

What was most disappointing about K’wan’s story?

The narrator. I could not even get into the story. She was horrible. No depth,no emphasis on the words. Some parts she sounded like a 7th grader.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

There were parts I just missed she didn't even hold my attention.

What character would you cut from Purple City, Volumes 1-3?

I would cut everybody. I couldn't even get a feel for anybody.

Any additional comments?

Please don't use her again. Where was Cary Hite or Honey Jones even Shari Peele she was ok.

The narrator is beyond awful!

This could have been a good listen, but the narrator just did me in and not in a good way. I couldn’t remember why I didn’t listen to this sooner, but as soon as she started....it all came back to me. I didn’t get past the first 2 minutes of the book.

narrator

omg one of my favorite authors and this book had so many characters that i love. The narrator of this book had me to where i had to force myself to finish it but i did. She had all these hard core dudes sounding like punks. I so wish the Authors would listen to to the narrators before hand cause they can make or break the book. i finished it because of the characters and Author

Surprise Surprise!!!

I love all of K’wan’s books. I like this book because it brings in some of my ffavorite characters from K’wan’s other novels. I love to hear about “Lil Ashanti, Animal, Alonzo, and Red Sonya” just to name a few. This book really threw me for a loop when “Don B”, Ceo of “Big Dog Records” is given a taste of his own medicine. Rain slips something in his drink and steals all of Don B’s identity and his entourage’s.Rain even puts a dill doe in between his but cheeks and records it. That is the funniest part of the book to me. Another part of this book that takes me by surprise is is when Lil Ashanti goes to kill “terror” the bully, and is almost overcome until his friend Alonzo steps in to help. Both Alonzo and Ashanti were almost killed by this unruly kid. They endured to the end and overcame their nemesis. One thing that I notice in all of K’wan’s books is all of the characters are Hispanic mixed with African, Cuban, or white. Those are all beautiful colors. K’wan is a hell of a writer and I wish him much success.

BAD NARRATOR

I've listened to multiple books narrated by this narrator, Kim Johnson, and she is TERRIBLE! She reads like she is nervous and not sure about what she is reading. All books that she narrates on are all the same, terrible. Her performance makes you want to return the book. Her long pauses between words is so annoying.

Good story

Often the difference between a great audio book & an ok one odds the narrator. The great ones make the story flow. As if they’re telling the story. Other’s make you feel they’re reading you a story. With dramatic pauses for every comma & period on the page like when you were 5 in the library. It’s made me quit listening to some stories

Good story but the person that was reading it was bad
She showed no enthusiasm as she was reading the story
It was like pulling teeth trying to finish

Intriguing, intense, with great characters.

I enjoyed the story, but I would’ve enjoyed it better if the narrator did a better job, K’wan never disappoints.
