Publisher's summary

Celeste finally admits her growing feelings for Oryan, but they have only a few fleeing hours before he is sent off to be the champion in a conflict he wants no part of.

The Empire of Navarus is at war with the Kingdom of Vollmar. The world’s greatest Centauri is now the newest soldier in the Empire’s army.

With the continuing promise of his father’s freedom, Oryan strives to be the perfect soldier. His accomplishments on the battlefield catapult him into a celebrity status, passing even that of his days as a Centauri. Fame and success bring with them bitter enemies and, unlike the sports world, these adversaries threaten more than his championship.

Celeste is left to fend for herself while Oryan is at war. She tries to lead a quiet life, but the high cost of keeping Oryan's secrets makes danger inescapable.

Join Oryan as the Emperor of Navarus and his general try to lay claim on him, and a shadowy group known as the Archides do the same.

Great series. Complex story, and characters. Scott Hart does a great job reading and keeping you envying the story.

So well done

Celeste and Oryan get a few golden hours before he has to leave to be the Empire's Champion in the war between Navarus and Vollmar. The greatest Centauri now must prove himself as a soldier both in training and on the battlefront. While Oryan is trying to keep himself and his men alive, Celeste is at home facing her own battles and unexpected events.

This is a non-stop action-packed book with D-Day-like battles. The strategy and battle descriptions make you feel like you are part of the battalion. The writing is excellent. You can't keep from being caught up in Oryan's world. I have loved this boy from his first scene. His strength and determination are unmatched. The lessons he learned from his father have helped him become a man to be respected. I was in awe of him during the battle scenes. His brains and bravery kept his men alive. Even as he becomes more powerful, there is so much political intrigue surrounding him. He has no idea of the manipulations. Even so, I was disappointed in his actions later. Vengeance consumed him. He forgot who he was and what was important. I missed Oryan and Celeste and what could have been. I look forward to the next book so much. I have faith that Oryan will be the man he needs to be. Not for his country or the emperor or the troops but for himself and his love.

Scott Hart is fantastic with the narration. His voice is strong and he conveys such tension. Well done!

Captivating all the way through

I loved reading through this book and was looking forward to the release of the audio book version. This is my favorite book in the series. What happens when your hero takes a dark turn? What causes someone who’s gone to great heights to fall to harrowing depths? This audiobook shows the listening just how that happens. Amazing performance and terrific writing.
