Publisher's summary

Puddle Is an Ocean to an Ant is the first and last book of its kind by Cal LaFountain. This scattered journey drifts from Tennessee to North Carolina to Vermont, exploring an aimless American life after college. A series of audio travel stories dissects the tension that results when persona collides with reality, the webs of addiction, and the burden of striving to establish a world of one's own.

Ever received & knowing the hunger yet unaware of the souls craving? Receiving and knowing, this is what I need. This is that.

With this. Cal walked me through the corners of my own being, challenging what has been put aside. Comforting unsettled experiences, behaviors unexplained. What I had yet to find words for. “A Puddle Is An Ocean To An Ant” was exactly this. I found myself, losing myself. Grateful. Visioning well being. Finding refuge in that which is us. Thanks so much for this Cal LaFountain.

Silly and serious

I loved the voices in this audiobook. You can sense yourself in these locations, interacting with all of these leftfield people. The story unfolds in rhythm. It is light and funny at times. Yet the author won't refuse intellectual thoughts, personal vulnerability, and expressive sentences too. I still can't pin down the "aboutness" of this audiobook, which is just part of why I found it so enjoyable.

A strange and moving journey

Puddle Is an Ocean to an Ant may surprise you. It's a tale built for the audiobook medium, and I can't imagine how different it might read as text. Regardless of your experience with audiobooks, the author has something in store for the listener in every chapter. The book's three-part structure builds and swells. Each part plays with (and even mocks) the others. When we reach the crescendo, it's clear neither the narrator nor the listener are the same.
