Publisher's summary

Book one in the sexy and intense new White Lies duet by Lisa Renee Jones!

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and, sometimes, our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma's Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not. Provocative because I sought her out with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn't change why I came for her.

EXCELLENT.. A SEXY ROMANTIC MYSTERY

I knew, as soon as this first book in the White Lies Duet was released, that I just couldn’t listen to it.. well not then anyway and not until the second book became available. And it’s not because it isn’t tempting - because it is.. and it’s not because the author is an unknown - because she IS well-known, well respected and she’s very talented. No, it’s because I had been a willing participant stuck in one of this author’s sticky webs before with no desire to be freed until the final words had been spoken. So I patiently waited.. and was rewarded with a listen that completely consumed me, entertained and enthralled me.. and left me glad that I’d got book two waiting in the wings to give me ALL the answers, the character growth and the HEA ending I desperately need.

Wealthy Attorney Nick Rogers went to Reid Winter Winery in search of clues that’d expose a cold blooded killer who’d orchestrated the deaths of his Father and the killer’s very own Mother - but, from the moment Nick laid his eyes on Faith, he knew he was in big trouble.. and the beautiful feisty clever woman challenged him all the way. And, the further along he got in their supposed ‘one night’ relationship, the harder it became for Nick because, rather than a cold blooded money hungry killer, all Nick could see was the selfless Artist who’d been trapped living a life she didn’t choose. In Nick’s eyes that didn’t make Faith guilty.. it made her self-sacrificing, innocent and vulnerable.. but Nick had so many secrets, told so many lies and kept his true purpose for seeking her out away from Faith. What was he going to do when she found out his truths? This woman had completely stolen his heart.. he was the courtroom Tiger who ripped the throat out of his opponents.. who was always dominant.. the cold blooded powerful ruthless Lawyer.. the man who didn’t believe in love or HEA’s. He now believed in one.. but would he ever get the second because guilty or not Faith is his.. he’ll stand by her.. protect her.. cover for her.. have faith in her.. and pray she’ll forgive him.

Faith had come to her late Father’s Winery after he’d died to help her Mother cope.. but she’d been impossibly stuck there for two long years - and now her Mother is dead which has left Faith drowning in red tape, Bank accounts locked and the wolves are at the door desperate to shut her down. Then she saw an opportunity to forget her troubles for just one night with an arrogant handsome bastard whose eyes, mouth, body, cocky confident sex appeal and alpha personality tempted her for the first time in two years. And, through the haze of lust, the pull of chemistry and the power of their passion - one night led so so much more.. because Faith slowly awakened, opened up, trusted and let Nick into her troubled world.. but how badly is she going to regret it?

This really is a clever and addictive dual POV story that slowly opens up to reveal and conceal truths, doubts, personalities, secrets and suspicions as the plot progresses through clever banter, hot days and nights of sex and sin while you’re drip-fed character and clues. There’s a growing closeness between Faith and Nick that’s been built entirely on Nick’s lies and suspicions.. and you know the truth will explode and rock their relationship when it’s finally revealed. So, I’m off to listen to the next book in this Duet to see how this alpha badboy is going to talk his way out of trouble and win back Faith’s.. err faith, see if Faith finally becomes a successful Artist, find out who the real murderer is and why he/she wants the Winery.

Worth a credit? Murder led to silent accusations, suspicion, secrets, sex and mystery. It was instant attraction, instant chemistry and instant lust between two well-matched damaged people. Two kindred spirits whose intense relationship urges them to reassess their thoughts on love.. they certainly found obsession. It’s well narrated too.. and YES this first book is definitely creditworthy.

Meh

A struggle to finish. The whole first half was corny and predictable. Fifty shades shadowing.

Ugh...I’m so annoyed

First off the story was just ok. Very repetitive. I will not be reading the second book to the duet. Lance was great but Grace sounded kind of robotic and she spoke so fast. Plus at the end there is a cliff hanger after chapters of nothingness. Book 1 and book 2 should have been one book.

Sexual Suicide

Since this author is extremely talented, it's disappointing that she has chosen a boring, overdone plot about an arrogant male sociopath who preys on a insecure woman.

Attorney Nick the Tiger is incapable of integrity, kindness or compassion; a jerk who views the female gender as sub-human. Listening as Nick bullies Faith into emotional and physical pain was not entertaining or romantic or erotic. Nick only enjoys sex when he is hurting his partner; he has made his fortune operating a sex club where women are routinely raped and tortured for the amusement of men.

Likewise poor pathetic Faith was almost too stupid to live, agreeing to have sex with an attractive yet violent stranger who could have killed her without remorse. Why would a woman author want to portray any female character as a submissive, brain dead doormat who deserves to be beaten and abused?

Lots of degrading sex scenes, with no affection or humor. Ironically Nick was a prosecutor who used to put sexual predators in jail until he decided to became a rapist.

Overacting Spoils the Story

I only made it through part of the first chapter before deleting the audiobook. The narrator is terrible. He has a great voice and enunciates well but overdramatizes so much that I couldn’t stand it.

Conceited

Talk about arrogance,Nick”the Tiger”is under the definition in the dictionary.First off,the guy talks revenge then how he’s gonna Ph¥ck Faith then expose her for the killer he thinks she is...but the guy does more yapping and not the good kind, the dirty kind...than getting down to business.I just wanted to put a sock in his mouth every time he opened it and that’s not saying anything good about an”audio book”.Will not torture myself with the next book in the series.I think I can guess where this is going anyway.

Meh...

Can’t go wrong with Grace Grant.
The story - I’m not sure if it’s the male narrator or the story but it never grabbed me.
The narrator seemed monotone especially in comparison to Grant.
Not sure I’ll purchase the sequel.

Halfway through and it's a yawn fest

God. I'm halfway through and... yawn. These two protagonists can yap. The characters try to hard be deep and philosophical yet the plot has little substance, The sex scenes drag out... the 'Tiger' loves the sound of his own voice. Not sure if i can listen to the rest. I'll be skipping a few chapters.

Mediocre disappointment that had potential

The mystery is interesting but the narration provides little chemistry to the erotic words in the romance part of the story. Both narrators have terrible voices for the other sex and would have been much more successful if they had performed it as a duet. Even then their voices don’t exactly fit?
The story is good but the dialogue is repetitive and overblown. If it were one well edited but slightly larger story instead of 2 books it would be more successful. Sad that by forcing the book to be a 2 part with the strategically placed cliffhanger to make more money you weaken the flow and dialogue of what could have been a really good story. I like this author’s creative imagination but not always the execution when it is dragged out to the detriment of the tale.
