Acerca de esta escucha
Prosecuted but Not Silenced is a powerful documentary about a mother and daughter's tragic involvement with the judicial system when there were allegations of child sexual abuse, a human rights and civil rights issue for women and children. It is an important educational tool for judges, lawyers, social workers, therapists, politicians, and the general public so that people realize what still occurs today.
Maralee’s story reveals the last taboo and a crime that needs the public's attention and emphasizes the need for training in the dynamics of maltreatment so that no more mothers have to suffer what happened to Maralee and her daughter.

The day we met in October of 1997, I was working at the District Court in Traverse City, Michigan as a Deputy Clerk. I loved my job. It was extremely satisfying and interesting with constant interaction with all walks of life, including people on either end of the judicial spectrum and many in between. Suddenly, there he was. Tall, handsome, and looking so impressive and important in his Michigan State Police uniform with his hat, gun belt, and badge. He was extremely friendly and upbeat, smiling profusely. Best of all, he, too, was unattached. What could go wrong?

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Evan Stark, founder of one of America's first battered women's shelters, shows how "domestic violence" is neither primarily domestic nor necessarily violent, but a pattern of controlling behaviors more akin to terrorism and hostage-taking. Drawing on court records, interviews, and FBI statistics, Stark details coercive strategies that men use to deny women their very personhood, from "beeper games" to food logs to micromanaging dress, speech, sexual activity, and work.

Seven-year-old little girls love their daddy. Kathy was no exception, so when her daddy started paying “special” attention to her, she felt “special” in turn. Her daddy loved her.
Few betrayals run as deep as the betrayal of being sexually abused throughout your childhood by the man you should have been able to trust with your life. For Kathy, the betrayal ran deeper because when she finally found the courage to start speaking out about what her abuser did to her, her family responded by labeling her a liar and a troublemaker. Kathy didn’t stop speaking out, though.

On March 26, 2018, rescue workers discovered a crumpled SUV and the bodies of two women and several children at the bottom of a cliff beside the Pacific Coast Highway. Investigators soon concluded that the crash was a murder-suicide, but there was more to the story: Jennifer and Sarah Hart, it turned out, were a white married couple who had adopted the six Black children from two different Texas families in 2006 and 2008. Behind the family's loving facade, however, was a pattern of abuse and neglect that went ignored.

WOW!!!!!!!
I was prepared for an incredible story, but unprepared for the level of corruption in our courts! Years and years and years the author and her daughter were subjected to trauma as a result of domestic-violence uneducated, "educated" people such as judges, attorneys, Social Services, Etc. This has got to change! Maralee has done an amazing job at documentation in this incredible book.
I commend you highly, Maralee, for having sustained your fight through these long years. Also, I love the work you are doing to help fight for victims across our country in attempts to raise awareness and see laws changed. What was done to you and your daughter is completely unconscionable! My congratulations to you and your daughter for having survived! May the remainder of your lives be simply an untangling of the mess that was created by red tape, and full of increasing amounts of peace and healing from all the trauma in your past!

A handbook for the nightmare
So grateful for this audiobook. I needed information and I needed it fast. In this 9 hours I was validated, understandably tearful and heartbroken, and outraged. I still am not confident in how to move forward in my family’s situation, but I am educated and have way more tools than I could have imagined. Thank you!
