Alan Gregory is a clinical psychologist with a thriving practice in Boulder, Colorado. His life begins to unravel when one of his female patients is found in an apparent suicide and the local paper begins printing accusations from an unnamed source of sexual impropriety between the woman and Dr. Gregory. He launches a psychological and personal quest for the truth that rapidly intensifies when more of his patients die untimely deaths, and Gregory suspects not only that the deaths are related but that another one of his patients may be somehow involved. Good story. Vocal performance so so.
The story was a typically good JA Jance. Good plot, good twists. Vocal performance was quite annoying in that emphasis would be placed on the wrong word in a sentence as if the performer was reading it cold. He used a somewhat sarcastic sing-song voice for the main character and at times it would bleed over to the other characters as well. Then at one point in the middle of the book he read it all straight, no sarcasm or sing song, for several chapters. I was beginning to wonder if they had changed performers and then all of a sudden the sarcasm was back. Weird. I have read approximately 15 of the JP Beaumont series so I guess I have a firm idea of his voice in my head and sarcastic sing song is not it.

Miss Eugene's narration.
The narrator was not necessarily bad but just changed Beau's personality from a grizzled detective to a almost whiny one.

The narrator suits the book very well
The story lines are very fine, but the narrator just makes it come alive…very nice combo. Will read more…I have to find more of their relationship with Lucy! …and the new baby!
