Publisher's Summary

[Contains mature themes] Free for a limited time. Step into iconic relationship therapist Esther Perel's office and listen as 10 anonymous couples in search of insight bare the raw, intimate, and profound details of their story. From infidelity to sexlessness to loss, it’s a space for people to be heard and understood. It’s also a place for us to listen and feel empowered in our own relationships. So…where should we begin?

About Esther:

Esther Perel is recognized as one of today’s most insightful and provocative voices on personal and professional relationships. A celebrated psychotherapist who has helmed a private practice in New York City since 1983, she has over three decades of experience navigating the intricacies of love and desire.

A Note from Esther:

Too often couples live like isolated islands. We think what we’re experiencing in our own relationship is unique to us, and we don’t know that our neighbors and friends are experiencing the same longings, laments, deprivations, and disillusionments in their own lives.

There is no school for relationships, no place for us to learn the tools for rebuilding and repair, to learn to straddle the many contradictions that roil in all of us. Where Should We Begin? Is a way for me to create meaningful, deep, and open conversations. As you listen to these intimate, unscripted sessions between real-life couples, I think you will find the language you’ve been looking for to have conversations with the people in your own life.

Come on...$3.99 for a one minute introduction...

Would you try another book from Esther Perel and/or the narrator?

I am a fan of Esther Perel- but charging $3.99 for her introduction to the series is ridiculous. I want my $ back.

What could Esther Perel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It's 60 seconds long

How could the performance have been better?

IT's fine

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Again, I really admire Perel. This review is actually about Audible's audacity...

Love Esther, but...

...this is just an extended ad for the series. It is mis-represented as a "prologue".

Prologue is a misrepresentation

If you could sum up the Prologue in three words, what would they be?
Not a prologue.

Would you listen to Esther again? Why?
Yes, if it's actually Esther giving us a full introduction of her series.

What was the most compelling aspect of this episode?
Marketing?

Any additional comments?
External producers are great, but with varying results.

Promising and captivating Prologue

Real and genuine introduction to what is coming next. Esther Perel interviews real couples sharing their stories and struggles in the real world. The voices you will be hearing in this series are not actors. It's the real thing! This will be an epic series!

Writing the same review of the whole set of these

So I'm not going to review each of these individually. They're all a great listen and I can't recommend one over the others. If you're in a place in your relationship where you're not happy and looking for steps you could take these are a great place to start. Esther does one-off sessions with these people and helps these see what is going on, and what they can do to change things. You don't have to be going through the exact same scenario to see some common threads, and find bits and pieces that will be helpful to you.

I'm going to leave the same review for each of these as you should really listen to all of them, rather than trying to pick and choose which you might find relevant.

Amazing woman, amazing content...

Esther Perel knows all the tricks to make a relationship work, and if it's good... it will get better!!! I'm so blessed to have found her early in my relationship and all her talks, videos, interviews, books and now this Audible Original "Where should we begin?" is a sample of how seing the relationships from a more mature point of view could actually help to make it grow better and stronger. To be true to yourself and to your partner. I love her work and I'm a huge fan. I can't wait for her to release some other books and programs, in my native language... Spanish.

Eh.

Boring. My wife and I are marriage and family counselors as well with a biblical approach. I am not a fan of most other counselors who one, take God out of the equation, and two, believe that everyone falls into textbook categories. Life and reality just don’t work that way. This series, not one I would recommend.

Sounds great.

It sounds like the making of a great idea for a new Audible Originals series.
