The year is 2380. The Intersolar Commonwealth, a sphere of stars some 400 light-years in diameter, contains more than 600 worlds, interconnected by a web of transport "tunnels" known as wormholes. At the farthest edge of the Commonwealth, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the impossible: Over 1,000 light-years away, a star...vanishes. It does not go supernova. It does not collapse into a black hole. It simply disappears.

A good short read
I got a kick out of Mr. Merritt's epistolary tale of a hidden society managing world events to keep their secret safe. I listened to the audio version of the story with several narrators. Production quality is excellent and kept me interested in a story that leaps around the world with multiple points-of-view. I was a little shocked at the way the story ends. I had to take a moment to process events before continuing to the final chapter. Overall, an entertaining and enjoyable read. I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author for review.

Fun & immersive sci-fi book!
I normally prefer a single narrator and sans sound effects on audio books. But the characters and the story led me down a path where I wanted to listen to the book several times in a row! Ans now crave the acting in the audio. Love the story and the narration.

Loved the story, wish there was more of it!
Story was great, never quite sure where it was going next and I loved the concept. I only wish the book was a bit longer as I'd like to be in the universe longer, and see more about means/methods. No spoilers though :)
There were a couple of points where narrators seemed to talk over each-other for a second during transitions that were a bit jarring, and I went back and had to re-listen to them to catch what was being said (using the web player if this was in error). Otherwise the performance was great.
I loved the crabby patty reference :) Along with the newsletter with direct fan interaction bit (freetomnewsletter.com)

Great story with a unique delivery.
I very much enjoyed this unique take on a techno thriller. While it is primarily set in our modern time to possibly very near future it incorporates bigger ideas like the best sci-fi does. Including using the fiction to talk about current day issues on a different way.
The narrators (yes plural) did a wonderful job. But it does take a bit of getting used to. It's an audio book, not an audio play, so the text is written like a book, but with different people reading the different roles each time. I'm not sure I would like all audio boos narrated this way, but this one story was interesting to hear.

An excellent audio performance.
This is a tight little story, with just enough world introduction to be comfortable in, and a couple of very satisfying twists that give you the oh did not see that coming feeling. I am not going to discuss the plot here. That is for the reader.
The audio performance comes from a talented cast, and an accomplished editor. Multi-voice cast readings can sometimes be plodding affairs, where everybody takes their turn. This had vivid emotional infliction. The performers were allowed to interrupt each other, talking over each other the way excited people do in actual real life. Yet the editing was done cleanly enough to allow the listener to understand every word and nuance. There is some subtle background sounds that lend flavor to the performance without overwhelming the voices.
Overall, a very good novella, with a twist, a clean ending, a good performance, in a package that comes in under 5 hours. Thanks Tom, and well done.

Great story. Performance good but not consistent.
Love the story and execution. Good pacing. Found some of the voice acting great, but some actors had a sing-song cadence that felt like simply reading as opposed to acting. Not a big fan of the style where actor's lines almost overlap. Probably meant to give the impression of natural speech. I found it unnecessary and jarring. Overall, a great read, super fun and interesting.
