Publisher's summary

Amaliya wakes under the forest floor, disoriented, famished and confused. She digs out of the shallow grave and realizes she is hungry... ... in a new, horrific, unimaginable way... Sating her great hunger, she discovers that she is now a vampire, the bloodthirsty creature of legend. She has no choice but to flee from her old life and travels across Texas. Her new hunger spurs her to leave a wake of death and blood behind her as she struggles with her new nature. All the while, her creator is watching. He is ancient, he is powerful, and what's worse is that he's a necromancer. He has the power to force the dead to do his bidding.

Amaliya realizes she is but a pawn in a twisted game, and her only hope for survival is to seek out one of her own kind. But if Amaliya finds another vampire, will it mean her salvation... or her death?

A bit stereotypical, but a lot of fun.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, this was a fun story read well. The narrators style takes a few minutes to get used to then it's all about the story.

What other book might you compare Pretty When She Dies to and why?

It reminds me of other gothic horror/romance books I have read, though that is not my primary genre... The characters feel a bit cookie cutter and wander into Mary Sue territory, but not so far that they cannot be enjoyed.

Which scene was your favorite?

There is a point in the book where it turns from vampire romance into weird monster book, and that was a lot of fun.

Was Pretty When She Dies worth the listening time?

Time well spent, I was entertained.

Any additional comments?

Though this book falls into a few stereotypes and character traps, the underlying story and the well paced writing make it likely I will give the next book in the series a try.
