Isabella Rose lives a quiet life in Marrakech, hiding a dark secret: she pays the bills by accepting wet work for an unknown broker. Her one solace is the time she spends at a local orphanage that offers a haven to children who have lost everything.

When a powerful and corrupt general sets his sights on acquiring the orphanage's land, Isabella finds her two worlds colliding. Brutal tactics escalate, culminating in a devastating fire that forces Isabella to risk everything to save the children she's grown to love.

But now, she must confront a terrible choice: disappear and protect her own safety or use all her deadly skills to bring the general down and secure a future for the orphanage.

This is one of those series that was slow to grow on me, but as the series progressed, I began to enjoy it more and more. I think part of my enjoyment might be because of the fact that I have either already read or am currently reading every single series that Mr. Dawson has put out.....and boy oh boy are there a lot of them.

I didn't remember - until I got a little bit into this book - what had occurred at the end of the last book. I think I read it about 3 years ago, so I did not remember where we had left off in the series until I started to put together some of the things happening in THIS book. The last book ended with an AWFUL ending that completely came out of the blue and made me feel like I was sucker punched, but there was HOPE. Once I got my bearings all together, I was completely invested in this book for so many reasons. One of them was a hope for a certain reunion.

So, about this book. Isabella has been on her own for the first time in her entire life and is learning how to be an adult. She is working for someone called "The Broker" who is the one who gives her her various assignments (she is still doing the same work as before) but the caveat now is that SHE makes the decision whether or not to take the job. She has her own I guess what you could call a "scorecard" based on certain moral judgements or qualifications.

This book has two parallel storylines surrounding Isabella and both are personal for her. One has to do with an orphanage that she has become emotionally and financially invested in and the other revolves around a particular "target" who she has been given a contract to "take out" by the broker.

As usual, there is non stop action and Isabella finds herself biting off a little more than she can chew. Sometimes it is hard to believe that she is only 19 years old (she definitely is so much more mature than her physical age) but after all the things she has been put through in her life (both physically and emotionally), it makes that discrepancy make more sense.

Things definitely take a turn for the worst and then there are events that occur that grabbed my heart and did not let go.

So yes, I have definitely become more and more of a fan of this series as each book progresses and I will be eagerly awaiting the next book to see where things are going to go from here.

The story might've worked with a better narrator and yet the orphanage used as a contrast with an assassin was phony.

Dry narrator Dry Story overall couldn't finish it.
