Turn life into an MMORPG!

As someone who grew up addicted to video games (specifically RPG's and MMORPG's), I was drawn in to the clever gameplay loop of slow—but clearly visible—and incremental progress combined with storytelling and epic fantasy elements. I would spend countless hours researching and figuring out how to optimize my virtual life and get the best possible outcome that I could. It wasn't until I came across this "meta" view of being able to do the exact same thing in real life that I was able to break out of my video game addiction and instead apply the exact same principles, work ethic, and habits to the real world and achieve my goals just as I had in the game.

Taylor Byte takes the analogy to a whole new level (see what I did there? xD) and structures the path to achieving your "main quest" (your purpose in life) broken down into incremental and digestible levels that are easy to understand and take in one step at a time. The book is filled with relatable anecdotes and demonstrates how your life truly is and can be as epic as any video game out there. No task—no matter how big or small—is unfit for contributing to your main quest and overall enjoyment of life, whether directly or indirectly.

I truly believe that every gamer addicted and driven by getting to the next level has the power to achieve their wildest dreams in real life. It's just that real life doesn't have visible instant feedback like EXP drops to keep us constantly motivated. But just because you can't see the EXP drop, that doesn't mean it isn't happening under the surface. I wish that I had come across this "meta" way of thinking at a much younger age, as it would have dramatically changed my life faster. This is the book I wish I had as an elementary school gaming addict. This book is a great introduction to the video game life philosophy and I really hope to see more works from Taylor, perhaps more in depth books about specific topics explained with this video game analogy!

Time to switch up my goals in life

I had a great time listening to this short collection of analogies that any teenage gamer can relate to. I never realized how much RPG's were like real life! The narrator sounded like Patrick Warburton and his voice was easy to listen to and chuckle along to the humorous guide. I give it five Mario stars out of five! Time to go find a wizard, a goblin, and a mage so I can start a small business!

game on

This is interesting. I'm a gamer. I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember. Im not so addictive that like people would spend ten hours a day playing video games, but I was spending quite a lot hours in total across a great variety of games. I enjoy that sense of competition, work and reword system. I always thought if life could be as simple as that. However it's not. But this book brings me a new perspective into that. True, life doesn't work on a simple work now and reword immediately sort of system. But it's still the similar mechanism. It's about how you piece them together. How you set the games on your own terms. It's a true open world LOL. Anyways, I enjoyed quite a lot listening to this book.

Fun Starter Guide for Teens and Young Adults

I really enjoyed the fun mash up style that this book employs to make leveling up in life more enjoyable. A spoonful of gaming helps the medicine go down. Each chapter correlates to different levels in a video game. Really more of a guide through the phases of life after college or high school than a practical guide or how to guide. Buried in the middle of each section there are some useful nuggets. Wish there were some more practical rules of the road but all together I found myself smiling and and really appreciating the creativity and clarity with which the book is written and structured.
