Good way to learn Spanish in my opinion

Good Spanish Program - don't be misled by some unfair reviews.

This Spanish language program allows you to actually understand and participate in authentic conversation in Spanish at native speed.
But to accomplish that feat, you need to begin slowly. You cannot rush comprehension and practice. Every farmer knows you can't "cram" for the harvest like you can cram for a college exam.
You can cram for a written vocabulary or verb test in Spanish class, but you can’t cram speaking fluency. Speaking fluency requires – demands – time and practice. And patience. This program gives you that valuable Practice along with lots of explanations, virtual interaction with Spanish speakers, help with memorizing, and you practice with common words and sentences. You are responsible to put in the time. Add some patience and you will get there. I know. I am getting there, partly thanks to this program for learning to speak Spanish.
I know that people all have different likes and dislikes and I respect that but I think that some of the criticalness about this program by some people is not right. I think its a good way to get speaking practice in my opinion.

I was initially drawn to Power Spanish 1 Accelerated because friends said it was the best Spanish program they had ever used.
I was partial to Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone, and had learned to speak some Spanish from those two methods.
Then I bought Power Spanish 1 Accelerated and my fluency really took off big time.
As I analyzed what had happened to make my speaking and understanding of Spanish increase so dramatically in such a short period of time (approximately three weeks of sporadic daily use) I concluded that the following aspects of the program make it EXCELLENT and ABOVE all the others I had used:
1. The instructor. Superb voice and total command of Spanish and English. Obviously an American language teacher named Frobose who has done a lot of programs over the years with great success. Very professional but down-to-earth and friendly at the same time. He explains everything very concisely in English so you’re never left wondering about meanings or about how to use the language correctly. I love this but I hate to guess I hate sounding dumb. It’s great to KNOW what is correct and what isn’t.
2. The memory technique. Just when you’re forgetting new material, a girl comes on the program and says “It’s memory retrieval time” and you GET to “bring it back from memory”. The more you do this, the more you retain. It’s awesome, really, and fun too.
3. The native speakers of Spanish. Males and females from different Spanish-speaking countries with lots of variety in accents keep this program lively. No boredom here. And then they repeat the hard material over and over so you really get it. I get annoyed at the reviews that complain about essential repetition. It’s impossible to get a good accent and really speak and understand any language without practice, and Power Spanish makes practicing fun. It’s sort of like a serious game that leads you to fluency (to a point). Of course, I’m not “native fluent” but I can speak Spanish now, to such an extent that my Latino friends are all excited to hear me speak their language so well.
4. Sentence creation. I thought that this would just be another boring exercise like they used to do in high school, but no Power Spanish sets up a system that teaches you to create hundreds of sentences any way you want. Not just memorizing other peoples sentences, but really kind of “creating” your own words in an understandable order. Really cool.

So there you have it. Power Spanish is awesome and it really works. I can’t recommend it enough. I hope you try it and enjoy it like I have. And learn to speak real Spanish in the process like I did.

Wonderful concept poorly executed

I really like the concept of this book. As an audio book it is the only way to delve into a language. I like the use of a slowly speaking native speaker and the use of faster speakers when you have more experience. Unfortunately the technical lapses overshadow the content. Because the speakers are giving you phrases as opposed to paragraphs of content the editing omits the first one or two or three words on a consistent basis. This makes it impossible to make any meaningful or reliable progress. I had to give up on this audio book

Decent but with an irritating element

Overall, I think this is a good approach and have improved. One element that is frustrating is the fact that he uses Spanish speakers who speak with an 'sh' instead of the rolled 'r.' I have not heard anyone speak with the sh here in America yet and I have lived all over the country. This also hinders looking up the word. I'll forget and type in an sh instead of an r. He also doesn't inform us that Spanish speakers will pronounce the 'b' and 'v' interchangeably. I thought trabajar was travajar for about a year till I looked it up.

I have taken Spanish off and on since junior high- and even got through third year in college and achieved a degree of fluency after living in Mexico. After ten years, however, I was really rusty. I could understand most of what I read, but forming a sentence and speaking was really difficult. This audiobook was a great way to jump start my spanish speaking and comprehension again, and it has been easy to take a few minutes in the car between errands to practice a little bit each day. I might have had trouble if this was my first introduction to the spanish language- it is accelerated. But for a review to jump start the language brain again, it has been great.

Perfect Recipe for Fluency

All in all, the very best Spanish language program on the market that I have tried. I would call Power Spanish the “Classic Best” most solid, down-to earth Spanish program I have ever used. Much better than Pimsleur (very weak on vocabulary), Rosetta Stone (guessing games), and the other hundered and one Spanish courses out there.
Here’s why I still prefer Power Spanish over the “flavor of the month” and why I deem it to be the #1 best all time must buy Spanish program if you’re serious about learning a ton of Spanish very quickly and remembering it and using it with native speakers. I liken this course to a recipe for bread. If you leave out one of these ingredients, the bread doesn’t rise or taste good. Power Spanish has all the ingredients for fluency. Here they are:


Awesome technique that has personality and life in it. This keeps you interested. The listener feels the excitement of someone who is passionate about languages and Mark transfers his passion to whoever is learning with him.
Super easy creative way to speak original Spanish. This breaks you out of the “duh” rote garbage MODE that most language programs give you. Frobose puts you in charge of whatver Spanish phrase you might want to create by giving you “choices” for original sentence creation. None of the competitors come close to this.
Amazing memory technique. As he promises, Mark goes back and has you retrieve what you’ve learned from memory so that you can remember and use it. Very effective. You always remember and can always use what you learn. No wasted time. Very efficient.
Tremendous variety of live native Spanish speakers from all over Latin America. Some reviewers appear shocked to hear that not all Spanish speakers pronounce all the words in exactly the same way. This narrow-mindedness is blown away by the realization that Mark Frobose is exposing us to the Spanish speaking world. Imagine learning American English with just a New York accent? Very limiting. Power Spanish has all educated native Spanish speakers so you get a great basic accent from them all, and then you can understand real Spanish everywhere you go.
Situation language practice that requires that you respond or ask questions appropriately according to a give real world situation.
Super useful high frequency vocabulary that everyone in the Spanish speaking world knows and uses every minute of every day. No esoteric rarely used material in Power Spanish. Every single word you learn you can hit the streets with and use immediately.
Flows. There is a “flow” to this program. I call it a “vibe”. You can feel and measure the fact that you’re learning a ton of Spanish very very quickly, and that you’re remembering it, and that you’re now able to use it. And one success builds on another and you become one more happy “Power Spanish” success story.

Could be better

Took me back to my high school approach to learning a second language. I understand that rote learning is necessary but this was excessive IMHO.
It is sometimes hard to understand what the Spanish Pronunciation is for some words. I had to look it up on Google.

The English speaking assistant constantly interjects with the phrase : "you should have said". The emphasis is on "should" which creates the mood of a rebuke for an incorrect pronunciation. This very quickly became irritating. For that reason alone I would not recommend this audiobook.

I love the sentence structure and building.

The sequence of learning made sense and was easy to build from one lesson to the next. The repetition was a good way too learn.

I spent a week in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and this book along with Spanish for the busy Traveler was really helpful.
I recommend this book as a great foundation for learning Spanish. I regret that I did not get this audible sooner in my journey. After mastering this audible book, I recommend wlingua and/or babbel language programs as well as the next audible book in this series. If you are traveling I recommend Spanish for the busy traveler in conjunction with this audible book.

Perfect Starting Point for beginner

I've always wanted to learn spanish but wasn't sure where to start. I've listened to the audio book several times on my drive to/from work and learn something new each time. I would highly recommend. I plan to order more Mark Frobose audible books as soon as I master this one.

for real beginners

I liked the method enough, quicker than some others, but had to return it and try part two. this was remedial if you speak a little.
