Publisher's summary

In his popular Stanford University lectures, Shirzad Chamine reveals how to achieve one's true potential for both professional success and personal fulfillment. His groundbreaking research exposes ten well-disguised mental Saboteurs. Nearly 95 percent of the executives in his Stanford lectures conclude that these Saboteurs cause "significant harm" to achieving their full potential. With Positive Intelligence, you can learn the secret to defeating these internal foes. Positive Intelligence (PQ) measures the percentage of time your mind is serving you as opposed to sabotaging you. While your IQ and EQ (emotional intelligence) contribute to your maximum potential, it is your PQ that determines how much of that potential you actually achieve. The great news is that you can improve your PQ significantly in as little as 21 days. With higher PQ, teams and professionals ranging from leaders to salespeople perform 30-35 percent better on average. Importantly, they also report being far happier and less stressed. The breakthrough tools and techniques in this book have been refined over years of coaching hundreds of CEOs and their executive teams. Shirzad tells many of their remarkable stories, showing you how you too can take concrete steps to unleash the vast, untapped powers of your mind.

Discover how to:

  • Identify and conquer your top mental Saboteurs. Common Saboteurs include the Judge, Controller, Victim, Avoider, and Pleaser.
  • Measure the Positive Intelligence score (PQ) for yourself or your team--see how close you come to the critical tipping point required for peak performance.
  • Increase PQ dramatically in as little as 21 days.
  • Develop new brain "muscles," and access 5 untapped powers with energizing mental "power games."
  • Apply PQ tools and techniques to increase both performance and fulfillment.
  • Applications include team building, mastering workload, working with "difficult" people, improving work/life balance, reducing stress, and selling and persuading.

So insightful- great stories, calmly told

I hesitate to use these words, but this book truly is perspective changing. The framework offers us the simple operating system of PQ, understanding the way (& perhaps even the why) we & others react, and offers the tools to make our decisions from a sage place. Wisdom becomes possible, and it is powerful.

A stand out book about peak performance and the mind

Mind blowing information about our left brain and right brain functions, and how to access peak performance by raising our positive intelligence quotient. We learn about our saboteur modes (left brain survival) and our inner sage mode (right brain thriving), and how to access a life lived in the sage mode.

Good Info - and all Audibles Need Chapter Titles

This was a good one - new insights and ways to frame limiting behaviors. I'd recommend, especially when used as a companion to the resources on Chamine's website.

One general request I have of Audible is to create descriptive titles for each Chapter of the audiobook. I use these audiobooks instead of hard copies and I often get books that I want to use as reference. I wanted to go back to this one, for example, and review the information on how to work with the saboteurs. Numbered chapter titles don't help. Am I missing something in settings to make these chapters more descriptive? It's true for my whole Audible library. Thanks!

Empowering like nothing else I've read

I've read a lot of self help books and none have been as empowering as this. The way Shirzad effectively describes how my brain works both for and against me remains incredibly useful. I'm listening for the second time and find myself, yet again, grateful. This book would have been very helpful in other circumstances of my life. I'm glad I understand better now...

My son who is incredibly well read, just read this and said that this book has influenced his personal happiness more than any other book he's read...and practical psychology, business, and personal relations books are his top interests.

Happy, healthy reading!!

Interesting

Interesting ideas - it's basically meditation but repackaged with some ideas that could help focus your mindfulness. The author performs the reading and offers personal anecdotes that are compelling. BUT... If you want to practice his guided PQ principles, you have to buy a subscription to the online program which is very expensive ($1,000!).

Adam

The book was good and it had a lot of good content. The author could have put a little more energy and examples into the first have of the book in order draw the listener in more. I've listened to the author on other podcasts so I know the there is passion and energy there. Also a team of us were reading / listening to yhe book, and alll us listening had a similar experience, which it was difficult to stay in engaged and follow the content. I listened to some chapters twice. Overall, the book was very useful and I would recommend it to anyone and plan to use it for future coaching opportunities.
