positive dog training review

the book had some good information. however. I didn't learn HOW to train my dog. I leard some methods. the author seriously pushed in the first several chapters all about adopting a senior dog. while I agree adopting a dog that is older than a puppy is good bc they need forever homes as well. but it was over done and forced down my thought. seriously, back off a bit. I understand the importance of getting a senior dog over a puppy and all that goes with it.
basically, if you already have a dog, you may wanna skip this book. I already know about different methods. I did want to know how to execute the actually training. so there fore this was a wast of my time and money.

Excellent Book

This is one of the best dog training books out there (believe me I've listened to a lot). It's clear, concise, and covers a multitude of useful things, starting with a reasonable synopsis of the fundamentals of clicker training

This is the training book

This is the training book I've liked best so far. The writing style is candid and engaging, the structure is thoughtful and consistent, and as a book, it just has the feel of a more mature work than most of its competition.

Useful information!!

The good organization continues into the back of the book. "Power" has five appendices with useful information like sample calendars you might use, or a list of possible threats you might not have thought of using.

The advantages of positive methods

You get simply-stated instructions for how to train the behavior: do this, do this, when the dog does that reward it in this way, and so on.

"Power of Positive Dog Training"

Well, "Power of Positive Dog Training" is the practical version. The book is organized around a training regimen -- there's one chapter for each week.

This book is a wonderful successor

Makes sense to me, because this book is a wonderful successor to "Culture Clash," Calvin Millan's classic set of essays about the value of operant conditioning and the flaws of other training methods.

Dog Training

This book does contain good instruction, but I was hoping for more help in teaching to my German Shepherd. The cover of "The Power of Positive Dog Training" has a quote from Calvin Millan.
