So informative

I loved how detailed this book is. The use of so many primary source documents to support the events covered is impressive.

more than just a volcano eruption

what really brings this to life are the letters written and that have survived the destruction. of course, this story is more about the people, rather than just the couple days of a mountain exploding.

I loved hearing about all the lives of the people who lived in Pompeii, n surrounding areas. it made me think of the Doctor Who episode, "The Fires of Pompeii". so between rewatching that, and hearing Jason Zenobia describe everything, it was fairly easy to picture things.

Bustling ancient city immortalized!

Pompeii has a more vast history than I realized. school just taught us it was a lively city destroyed without warning by a volcano. Oh, the poor people! It was indeed much more. I enjoyed learning of the people groups that inhabited it over time, especially the Etruscans which little is left of for their mark on history in general.

My favorite part was on the bustling daily life, including the hoodlum behaviors. Their society didn't seem much different than ours, complete with drunks and graffiti (that made me laugh), "fast food" and all things meat. I was surprised at what all meat types they did eat.

Hearing such detailed events that led up to the city's demise was interesting. How they did and didn't flee, the intense heat that is almost hard to comprehend.... Pretty mind blowing events. I can only imagine the sights people saw and felt from afar. It is neat how letters survived to tell their tale.

Narration was well done. Very enjoyable to listen to.
