Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You Something—And Now You Can Finally Understand What It's Saying.

You've tried positive thinking. You've white-knuckled your way through panic attacks. You've told yourself to "just relax" a thousand times. But what if your anxiety, shutdown, and stress responses aren't personal failures—they're intelligent biological strategies you can actually work with?

Polyvagal Theory for Stress, Anxiety, and Trauma reveals the hidden language of your nervous system and gives you the roadmap to genuine, lasting regulation. Richard Banks translates cutting-edge neuroscience into simple, practical tools that work with your body, not against it. This isn't another audiobook telling you to breathe deeply and hope for the best—this is the biological blueprint for why you feel the way you do, and exactly how to shift it.

What You'll Learn:

• The Three Rooms of Your Nervous System and how to recognize which one you're in at any moment

• Why your panic attacks aren't random—they're predictable autonomic patterns you can learn to interrupt

• The 66-day toolkit of breathwork, movement, and connection practices proven to strengthen your vagus nerve and increase emotional resilience

• How trauma rewires your internal alarm system and the specific techniques to gently recalibrate it

• State-matched strategies for children, neurodivergent individuals, chronic illness, and caregivers

• The shame-dissolving reframe that transforms "What's wrong with me?" into "What does my nervous system need right now?"

This Audiobook Is For You If: You're exhausted from managing anxiety that won't quit. You've experienced trauma and can't move past it. You feel disconnected from your body or stuck in chronic stress. You're a therapist, teacher, or caregiver wanting nervous system-informed tools.

You don't have to fight your nervous system anymore. You just need to learn its language. Start listening today!

I enjoyed listening to this and the wealth of information on the nervous system and different strategies to help regulate it. I especially appreciate the author's description of how people in different situations require nuanced approaches. This is important to ensure that outcomes improve and aren't worsened by a one-size-fits-all approach. Don't get me wrong, some strategies can be simple, which is why the principles in this book are helpful to hear. This is well worth listening to, even if you think you've been around the block and know some nervous system strategies. There are some great nuggets here for everyone.

a lot of great information on the vagus nerve!

This was surprisingly grounded and practical. It explains anxiety and stress in a way that removes shame and actually makes your reactions make sense. I liked how it focuses on working with your body instead of forcing calm. Easy to listen to, structured well, and genuinely useful.
