After tragedy strikes his family in a dusty Saloon, Petit Jean is sent back east to live with his Uncle George who runs a Bordello in the corrupt Manhattan waterfront. During his time there he meets the acclaimed poet Walt Whitman who has an indelible impact on his life. The second half is the story concerns Petit Jean’s metamorphism into John Little, a highly paid assassin who reads Whitman while preparing to ruthlessly kill his adversaries and seeking the solace of cold revenge.
