Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

If there is one thing I TRULY HATE....
...it's when someone is trying to promote a new or recent book series by saying "if you liked "X" you'll LOVE THIS 'good old whatever it is'.
Then I buy it, excited for a new and delicious read
And it sucks big ol donkey d***s.
This PROMISED to be every dodgy, off colour, sleazy thing wrapped into one hilarious Platoon F'ing ride, so on Friday night at about 9:30 pm, I used my coveted subscription credit (as opposed to space jockey credits) to buy the Big Ass Bundle 3 on audio (which has 9 books) because I figured that if I was going to waste a credit on some risque stuff, I might as well get as much as I could for that one credit.
The best time I have for listening to books is while I'm working because I can listen to a book in just a few days that would take me at least a week to read from hard copy, and I have many books that lost my interest right from the first chapter when they weren't even close to what they promised.
THIS IS **NOT** ONE OF THOSE BOOKS!!!!
I started listening on Saturday while fixing breakfast and my daughter came in several times asking what I was laughing at. I explained. Her response?
😳
Finally, truth in advertising and there truly is no better person to read a book than the person who wrote it.
Yes, there are many narrators that are amazing and I would listen to them read the phone book; and there are also many narrators who are so deadpan that I struggle to keep interested even if the book in question is one that I dearly love and have read the hard copy until the pages are falling out. Having the author reading his or her own work has the advantage that when you have a particular character thay thomething, you KNOW how they thpeak.... er, speak... you KNOW what inflection you meant when you wrote that line, and how the other characters react to what they thaid...
Even though I didn't have a lot of available time over the weekend to "read" I am already on book 3 (well, 4 now...) and am having to be careful listening at work because people give me funny looks but I guess it's no different than the looks that Rear Admiral (😂🤣) Parfait is giving anyone who is breathing and within arm's reach of him
THIS SERIES IS AMAZING!!!!!
I am so glad I took the chance on using that credit....
I will definitely be checking out his other series as well

Funny... but not to me.
It tries to be funny but sexual harassment and being gay are just not funny to me. I recognize that "these are the jokes" but I have no urge to laugh... it is simply banal. Too bad because I want to like the charactures and find out what happens to them but then they mention the hero's name... Har, Don. Suddenly I just don't care.

It's like Kevin Smith if he wrote a sci-fi series
I was looking for something to listen to that was funny and not too deep. This checked all the marks. To top it off , it is a ton of hours of listening pleasure for only one credit!
These stories are about what equates to a bunch of 'red shirts' (Red shirts were the cannon fodder in the Star Trek series) assigned to an old, crappy space ship and sent out on a (unknown to them) suicide mission.
These books are not for anyone looking for serious sci-fi space stories, but for those looking for something fun to listen too and are cool with dick jokes and innuendo.

I tried, I really tried
I was looking for a light-hearted, sci-fi romp, but this just isn't it for me. I got through the 1st mission hoping it would change. The story seems to me 90% elementary schoolboy humor. While it may be fun for a short story, 35 hrs is going to be way too much.

Great story/performance not for the PC brigade
Ok first off, if you're a "right-on", "politically correct" person ... just skip this because the stereotypes will annoy you. If you take one look at a "Carry On" film and start writing angry letters ... it's not for you. However, if you're willing to see how the characters develop and the stereotypes become real and are dealt with with humour and respect, then great.
Now we have that out of the way, this is a great series with many genuine laugh out loud moments. The narrator is fantastic with wonderful characterizations and voices which make it easy to tell which character is speaking. Honestly, one of the best that I've heard.
I don't want to talk much about the story and ruin it, but whilst you might think that it starts out as a cliche, the twists and turns, soon turn it into something much more. The series develops very well (I'm on Book Eight right now) and never feels like it's dragging. The only slow moment is the story-recap near the start of each book but that's only noticable because I'm listening to one book after the other. It isn't that instrusive.
I will be looking out for other books by these authors and definitely by books read by this narrator.
Honestly, you can't spend your credits in a better way than this but do expect some off-colour jokes and characters. They will flesh out (as Jensen or Parfait would say) but until then you might be thinking "ugh". Don't. It's absolutely worth listening to this series unless you are really an OTT PC person.
For the record, I'm female. And pushing 50.

Great Narration
Hmm, I can say I enjoyed this, a lot, despite the stories flagging at time’s mainly due to the author seeming failure to spot when he should stop labouring a point. The humour is there and while I never laughed out loud I was either smiling or just appreciating the strangeness of the stories, very enjoyable if not sparkling.
The Bawdiness of the book mainly stems from one character and his, explained, focus on sex. It’s bawdy rather than explicit form just one facet of the narrative and is not going to offend if you have ever come across schoolboy humour, although this is accomplished schoolboy humour.
The narrator is fantastic and gives voices to all the characters that are, by and large, distinguishable and often wonderfully exaggerated. At the end of the book there are a small number of outtakes where the author just loses it, bursting into a fit of laughter, and I can understand how delivering those lines with those voices while keeping a straight would be a difficilt task. W well done sir!

Funniest audio I've ever heard
While this book might not be for everyone - there's innuendo, cliché, juvenile jokes and swearing (turtle dongs, anyone? 😂) , but honestly, that's pretty much right up my street sometimes 🤷♀️
The stories are nothing amazing but they are good and a great way to pass a few hours. Where this book really comes into its own is the narration. This man has honest true talent, you can instantly tell which character is speaking, he hits the nail on the head everytime and the delivery of every joke and one liner is spot on. I've lost count of the number of times I've snort laughed out loud 😂😂 - favourits have to be geezer and hank!
An excellent way to spend a few hours, especially when you're after a bit escapism and some laughs. Well worth the credit or money - I bought it through whispersync with KU and its an absolute bargain!

Most Definitely Deserves several Re-Listens
I thought I actually written a review but no matter, I've just finished this wonderful, humorous extremely different Bundle for the second time - and I know I'll listen to it many more times.
Its not only well written, it's obviously been well thought out. The humour is unusual in some places but nonetheless brilliant.
I realise their maybe a very small minority of listeners who may be easily offended by some of the some of the dialogue, innuendo, and such but that's their loss.
Further Platoon F stories should most definitely be written.
Excellent!!

Don’t waste a credit
I purchased this book after listening to the Space Team series. The writing, storyline and characters were predictable and dull. If you want a genuinely funny, laugh out loud listen, go get Space Team. If you have trouble sleeping try this.

Good fun with great performance...
The olparallelisms and correlations to our reality was tons of laughs out loud. People were giving me a side eye... Not SUPER BUT GOOD WHILE IT LASTED. VERY impressive acting (this guy would be unfair to call him narrator).

Monotonous drivel
There is one part, with the caveman and spears, which is one of the funniest things I have ever heard in an audiobook. The rest of it is just sexual innuendo and drivel.
