Publisher's summary

My life has always been safe. I like it that way. I grew up in a fake society where plastic hearts rule. If our hearts are made of plastic, they can never be broken. My parents have expectations and I do everything I can to meet them, even if it means giving up on my own dreams. Now, all I want is to be free to make my own choices.

Dane Wright is everything I have been warned to stay away from. We met one night while I was with my perfect, parent-approved boyfriend and I haven’t stopped thinking about him. I don’t want to like him. I am doing everything I can to ignore his pull, but my heart seems to want what it cannot have, what it has never had.

Can he measure up? He may think I am too good for him, but maybe he is too good for me. Life is a series of choices and I have never been able to make my own. Until one day, when my heart decides to make a choice for me.

Poor little rich girl

Spoiler: This was a story of poor little rich girl. This girl knew about her family yet she allowed her family to make decisions. Her inner dialogue said one thing but her actions were different. For a rich girl, she didn’t learn to save money? She said she gets allowes. Why didn’t she get a job? Her excuses was that she was protected Dane. This was the easy way out. Like I said, poor little rich girl. The performance was okay. She sounded whinny at times. The writing flowed well and it was the reason I gave four stars. I just didn’t care for the heroine. I did love the hero.

It’s almost good

This story has the ability to be great it just isn’t. It’s lacking something. Narration sounds way to old for the character

Wow!

I loved this book.

I even stopped listening for a little because I didn’t want it to end, that’s when I didn’t know there was a sequel!

Definitely recommend. It’s a tale of someone stuck between expectations of others a finding herself & it’s something I think everyone can identify with.

Can’t wait to listen to Glass Hearts!

This was not bad, just okay for me.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lisa De Jong? Why or why not?

Yes, I would try another book by Lisa De Jong. The writing was not bad at all. The flow of the story was very good. I really loved Dane and sometimes wondered why he loved Alex so much. I just feel like Alexandra grew up in the VERY rich lifestyle and not sure she will be able to ever live without it. She says she will, but not sure I believe it. When Alex and Dane went out, it sounded like Dane paid for everything even though he was the one putting himself through school and working. Alex never worked a day in her life. She never even thought of getting a job during winter or spring break. I hate to say this but at times while I was reading this I was thinking Alex was whining about "rich girl problems". There are many people out there who have no family support financially or emotionally.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator did a decent job. I think some of the male voices needed some work. At times, when she did Dane's voice she sounded like Millhouse from The Simpsons. She did the female voices very well.

Awesome Book

I've read several books from Lisa de Jong and loved them all. This was my first audio from her and overall I enjoyed it. I liked the narrator except, when she quoted other female characters. It was almost as if she over exaggerated the voices.

Horrible

The narrators voice is like nails on a chalkboard (has that “Kardashian nasal whine”. The story is boring and the characters are not likable. I turned off after 10 minutes.

Alex is a Most Unlikable Female Lead

Yes, I know it's fiction but I cannot like Alex or call her a heroine. She is weak, ignorant and selfish. Anyone who doesn't want to disappoint people who have neither respect nor affection for you but have money doesn't say much for your character. She treats Dayne terribly making it easy to see why she had no friends. I really don't care if the book has a HEA I can't finish the book. Dayne is a kind, strong, gentle and good young man. His accomplishments are impressive.
Linda R. Josephs does a stellar job. She made each voice distinct. That being said anyone who gave this book ☆☆☆☆☆ either gives every book that rating, (too many people do that) or they have very low expectations.
FYI unless you're a minor or proven incompetent your parents can't revoke a trust fund that wasn't done by them.

Unthinkable

I can’t believe this story is written by a woman. She wrote it a way showcasing the main character as someone who is so obsessed with the guy that looks stupid because she think he was her be all and end all.
Aside from the fact that the story is somewhat too high school for me. I mean Alexandra was only 19 years old and she thinks she wants to commit to Dane forever. I could write some more but finishing the story made me tired.
