Publisher's Summary

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Planet of the Apes franchise: an illustrated life story of Caesar, the brave and extraordinary leader of the apes, as told by Maurice, Caesar's best friend.

After the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar's tribe has finally found a safe refuge from the last remnants of the humans who wish to see them wiped out. It comes at a cost, however, as Caesar dies before he can see the apes thrive and prosper in their new home. Maurice, as a gift to Caesar's son, Cornelius, for when he grows older, decides to recount and chronicle Caesar's story so his son can truly know what a unique and brave ape his father was and inspire Cornelius in turn.

Caesar's Story is this chronicle and tells the story of Caesar from his earliest days under the care of scientist Will Rodman, as well his life with the ape colony in Muir Woods after the outbreak of the Simian Flu, his interactions with Malcolm and Ellie, the dangerous ape Koba, and his ultimate battle with and imprisonment by the vicious and unstable Colonel. The audiobook also chronicles what happens in between the events of Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, as well as the events between Dawn of and War for the Planet of the Apes.

The audiobook includes Maurice's personal thoughts and reflections of his long time spent alongside Caesar and contributions from several other key apes that knew Caesar. The result is a truly one-of-a-kind celebration of the new Planet of the Apes trilogy and the franchise as a whole.

Critic Reviews

"One of modern cinema's most unexpectedly rich and rewarding (and unique) blockbuster franchises, the effectively rejiggered Planet of the Apes, which used the bones of a beloved classic to craft a series that continually stands out on its own merits.... [A] thinking-fan's summer movie delight, bolstered by eye-popping special effects and a reworked mythology that pays homage to the originals while pushing onward." (Indiewire)

also fills in gaps between movies

my 7 year old daughter loves the new planet of the apes movies. she has bonded with Caesar. we sometimes play, i pretend I am Koba, she pretends she is Caesar. we were going to be on a long car ride, and this was perfect. It recapped the movies in a fun way. But also filled in the gaps between the movies, which was very nice. she also thought this book did a good job of showing how koba was mis-treated, not entirely his fault he turned out the way he did.

if you enjoyed the movies, you will probably like this.

APES TOGETHER STRONG!

Some would probably just see this audio book as just a novelization of the three films, and to an extent they're right. However, this book provides much more than what the films gave us, filling in gaps between them and offering insight into the thoughts of various apes in Caesar's society. Bear in mind though, while it does include the events of the novels "Firestorm" and "Revelations", it does not include events from any of the graphic novels. Regardless, its an excellent account given by a narrator that does well portraying the usually silent Maurice. Well done.

Loved it! I did not want it to end!

A retelling of the story of all three Planet Of The Apes films. the story of Caesar, as told by Maurice, to Caesar's son. Well written, quick paced, and performed beautifully. I would highly recommend.

Son will know who father was and what he did for u

This is a great retelling of the Planet of the Apes reboot. Not only does it cover the events that occurred in Rise, Dawn and War, it also fills in the gaps between those events. Gaps such as how the apes built their village in the redwoods once they got out of San Francisco, what happened to Malcom after the end of Dawn and why some of the apes ended up working for the soldiers in War. All in all this is a great story for anyone who is a fan of the Planet of the Apes.
