Get to know the ickiest illnesses that have infected humans and affected civilizations through the ages. Each chapter explores the story of a disease, including the scary symptoms, kooky cures, and brilliant breakthroughs that it spawned. Diseases covered in this book include bubonic plague, smallpox, rabies, tuberculosis, cholera, and scurvy.

* Plague-Busters! is chock full of awesomely appalling medical history that is sure to delight audiences, and possibly even spark interest for some future pathologists.

Fans of Albee's Poison will feel right at home with this darkly comedic piece of nonfiction.
An entertaining, accessible, and satisfyingly disgusting history of six diseases . . . an equally worthy choice for researchers and browsing pathologists.
A lively illustration of the perils of illness in the olden days.
* An excellent biography of a genuine miracle worker.
* Meticulously researched and compulsively readable.
This book is riveting. It is gruesome but it is also uplifting . . . What a triumph.
Atmospheric . . . The story it tells is one of abiding fascination.

As others have said, yes this was written for younger readers but it was still very fun to read! I bought the physical copy as well because I knew the illustrations would be worth it and I was right! Another great read from Dr. Lindsey Fitzharris and I am excited for whatever she comes out with next!

Another great book!

This is a great introduction for anyone curious about the history of disease. I read it with my kids and it peaked their interest in history. We all enjoyed the macabre history.

Eerie & Fun!

I was so excited that Lindsey Fitzharris had a new book out that I didn’t even read the description. This is NOTHING like her other books. It seems more suited for adolescents who are interested in medicine—which perhaps I should have guessed from the cover. For that audience it would be great, but there was little here that I didn’t already know. I am sorry that I wasted a credit on this, and I hope that Ms. Fitzharris returns to her usual work of producing well researched, in-depth, and fascinating books of medical history for adults.

What a disappointment.
