Publisher's summary

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to near-native fluency. Speak and understand French in just 30 minutes a day.

With this newest edition of French 1, we reflect the general trend in France toward casual interaction and have updated vocabulary and structures. What you are learning is neither stilted “textbook” French, nor “street” French, but rather everyday French as spoken in France.

This course includes Lessons 11-15 from the French Level 1 program featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak French.

Reading Lessons are included to provide you with an introduction to reading French. A Reading Booklet is included with your download.

The French Language

French is spoken by 55 million speakers in France, 3 million in Belgium, 1.5 million in Switzerland, 6.5 million in Canada, and 5 million in former French and Belgian colonies. It is an official language in 44 countries and an official language of the United Nations. An estimated 50 million people around the world speak French as a second language.

Pimsleur French lessons 11-15

The best and most useful conversational review of french in my opinion! Am working my way through the entire series before my trip to France.

Excellent way to practice conversational French

Overall very good. Tried to find the booklet for the reading lessons. What I found to download only matched the audio part of the time.

Frustrating

Though the first lesson and second set were good, this set and the one after mixes up pronouns, adjectives, and verb tenses too quickly without explaining any grammar rules (they do stop to explain numbers and articles but for some reason never verbs!) For example, they never explain verb negation or where to place adverbs in a statement vs a question. They do a lot of repeating words like beer and wine, not nearly enough to help with verbs and negation. They also skip around too fast, such as introducing a new verb or adjective, then abruptly shifting back to numbers over and over again before you have time to understand the grammar pattern. If all you want to do is order beer and wine and figure out your change this is for you because 17 lessons in that’s been the primary focus (that and for some reason learning to contradict women is part of almost every lesson!)
