Good Read

This book was an interesting take on Dragons. also loved how the author gave a great back story to the Pillage family.

An excellent listen and a good book for the kids

This is a book I started reading in high school and put down. I just recently rediscovered it and got it on Audible and just listened to it in its entirety and it is just as enjoyable now as it was when I was in high school.

Fun Middle Grade Fantasy

It started a bit on the sad side with a young boy (13 yrs) acting out because his mother was sick and he had no other support at home, she dies and he is shipped off to a reclusive uncle he has never met. He gets in to a lot of trouble as he always has done at school and strange things start happening and secrets in his uncle's house cause him to investigate. The story starts a bit slow but it becomes more intriguing and you slowly get pulled in. It's a great book for 5th grade and above for those who like mystery, fantasy and of course dragons.

I listened to this one with my 11 and 15 year old sons and we really enjoyed it. The narrator did a great job, was very entertaining and really good differentiation with the character voices.

Ruined by performance

The plot is solid, simple, teen and enjoyable enough. The bits of Steven’s humor that would make it sparkle are lost to terrible a delivery. The performance of character voices is one of the strangest conglomeration of accents I’ve ever heard, and they don’t match the characters in anyway. Furthermore, the actor is sloppy and gets mixed up between their accents. I’m 4/5 of the way through the book and I don’t really care whether or not I finish. I might finish it on paper one day.

I love this narrator!

I love this book! Orbert Skye is my top favorite author and I loved his series Leven Thumps so I wanted more and I found this mini series! it did not dissapoint! I love the characters and the backstories and the fantasy these books have. The narrator is wonderful as well. he did Leven thumps as well and I really like that he gives each of the characters a different voice! He is wonderful to listen to.
I recommend this book and audiobook to everyone!

The narrators voice is off putting

Okay so like, the narrator has a pretty normal voice and at times is good for specific characters. That being said, every time he does the voice of the main character or most of the adults he sounds like a ghoul telling a campfire story. Not gonna lie, at points his voice took me out of the magic of the book. The immersion breaking tone of his voice sounds analogous to something you’d hear in a chilling tales for dark nights story.

great book but read like William Shatner

My kid and I really enjoyed the book and the plot but we found the reader to sometimes be a little distracting. They were occasionally weird William Shatner type pauses that would throw us out of the action.
