Story
In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: Circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life. Publisher's summary
To the outside world, they seem to have it all. Cassie Barrett, a renowned anthropologist, and Alex Rivers, one of Hollywood's hottest actors, met on the set of a motion picture in Africa. They shared childhood tales, toasted the future, and declared their love in a fairy-tale wedding. But when they return to California, something alters the picture of their perfect marriage. A frightening pattern is taking shape - a cycle of hurt, denial, and promises, thinly veiled by glamour.
Torn between fear and something that resembles love, Cassie wrestles with questions she never dreamed she would face: How can she leave? Then again, how can she stay?

In 1935, six-year-old Emily Evans vanishes from her family's vacation home on a remote Minnesota lake. Her disappearance destroys the family - her father commits suicide, and her mother and two older sisters spend the rest of their lives at the lake house, keeping a decades-long vigil for the lost child. Sixty years later, Lucy, the quiet and watchful middle sister, lives in the lake house alone. Before her death, she writes the story of that devastating summer in a notebook that she leaves, along with the house, to the only person who might care: her grandniece, Justine.

In Her Body and Other Parties, Carmen Maria Machado blithely demolishes the arbitrary borders between psychological realism and science fiction, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism. While her work has earned her comparisons to Karen Russell and Kelly Link, she has a voice that is all her own. In this electric and provocative debut, Machado bends genre to shape startling narratives that map the realities of women's lives and the violence visited upon their bodies.

I LOVE Jody Picoult'S books, however...
this is the only book by this author that I simply did not like. Not because of the subject matter. She always writes something provocative. This just didn't feel very well written or quite honestly well. It hurts me to say this, because she is one of my absolutely favorite writers. That said, the subject matter is personal, heartbreaking and important to discuss.

Not my favorite
I have been a fan of Jodi Picoult for quite some time. This book, though, I have to say was not a favorite. I think the narrators did a great job, but the story was kind of choppy. Usually her characters are so well developed, but they are lacking in this book. It's okay, but not fulfilling.

Left a lot unanswered
The narrators were wonderful and did a great job. However, the ending was frustrating. Like the author had no idea how domestic violence worked. she just left? where did she go? did she go back to work? did the paparazzi continue to harass her and Conner? it was very disappointing.

Looking for a Jodi Picoult novel? Skip this one!
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone not looking for well-crafted characters and a can't stop reading story typical of this author.
Has Picture Perfect turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I've enjoyed all of Jodi Picoult's books, except this one.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was just OK.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. The characters, in particular, were very disappointing. Cassie and Alex, specifically, were awful. Their relationship was silly and unbelievable.

I had heard that this was a great author and so I read her recent book" small great things" and it was really good so I tried to read a few more. I hated the depressing book about elephants so I thought I would try one more and I could not even make it a quarter way through this book because it was so incredibly dull. Zzzzzzzzzzz

I never write reviews. This one won’t be positive.
I NEVER write reviews- good, bad, or indifferent. I was so disappointed by this book, I felt like I needed to warn others. I can hardly finish it. The story drags on and includes a lot of background that doesn’t seem necessary. IMO, it wasn’t worth the credit.

Not Jodi Picoult's best
After The Book of Two Ways, I had high hopes for this book. I was very disappointed, both with the story and one of the two narrators, Amanda Cobb. Brian Hutchison was great.
