Story
In the more shadowy corners of the world, frequented by angels and demons and everything in between, Laytham Ballard is a legend. It's said he raised the dead at the age of 10, stole the Philosopher's Stone in Vegas back in 1999, and survived the bloodsucking kiss of the Mosquito Queen. Wise in the hidden ways of the night, he's also a cynical bastard who stopped thinking of himself as the good guy a long time ago.

Story
Few novels have had as profound an impact on American culture as On the Road. Pulsating with the rhythms of 1950s underground America, jazz, sex, illicit drugs, and the mystery and promise of the open road, Kerouac’s classic novel of freedom and longing defined what it meant to be “beat” and has inspired generations of writers, musicians, artists, poets, and seekers who cite their discovery of the book as the event that “set them free”.

Angela and Terry return home after several grueling months of filming the popular television show, Let's Switch Houses!, only to find their residence in ruin. Sure, the décor and framed photographs are the same; the color of the walls hasn't changed; the furniture sits unmoved. But something is off. Their quiet New Jersey home feels tainted. Angela can sense it. Crawling inside her. Infecting her mind. Poisoning her thoughts. Then the nightmares begin. Awful, lucid visions that cause her to question her own reality.

The intoxication from a pint of vodka, the electric buzz from snorting cocaine, the warm embrace from shooting heroin - drinking and drugging provide the height of human experience. It's the promise of heaven on earth, but the hell that follows is a constant hunger, a cold emptiness. The craving to get high is a yearning as intense of any blood-thirsty monster. The stories inside feature the insidious nature of addiction told with compassion yet searing honesty.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Josephine Clark is trapped. A harrowing past haunts her every time she looks in the mirror, and she can't escape the violence of her everyday life. More and more, her thoughts turn to Evan Salinger, the boy she knew in high school. The boy they called a mental case. A loner. A freak. The boy who seemed to know things no one could know. Publisher's Summary
WARNING: This story contains scenes of extreme violence and gore. Not for the squeamish or easily offended. Listener discretion is strongly advised.
"Picaro is the most insidious kind of extreme horror, told with bloody flair." (Bob Milne, Beauty in Ruins)
"A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it." (Jean de La Fontaine, Houston, Texas, Summer, 1984)
Binh Pham is a street hustler who suffers from narcolepsy. After his pimp is killed by a Mexican drug cartel, Binh realizes they are coming for him next. On the run, he thumbs his way down Interstate 45, a heavily wooded straight shot between Houston and Dallas. He meets Paul Marrane, an eccentric and charismatic road scholar. Paul travels with Binh, acting as protector and friend. But Paul's odd behavior soon turns dangerous. Convinced his road companion is a lethal psychopath, Binh discovers Paul Marrane is much worse than that. As the two men travel the dusty road, their odyssey becomes a harrowing nightmare from which there is no escape. Picaro is a bloody road trip to Hell from acclaimed author of horror Terry M. West.

It's A Good One
This was good, I really enjoyed it, but I would not call it Extreme Horror, maybe just horror with some violence, if you want extreme horror check out Jon Athan or Tim Miller... but this was a good story, I like how Terry referenced Jack Kerouac author of On The Road and William S. Burroughs author of Junky, both novels from the 50's and the beat movement..
The narration was nicely done by Sonya & Bryan L. Anderson....I received this audiobook code for free and I am giving this review voluntarily.

Beware the Lone Traveler
A great standalone story in the world of Honger. Very similar to the Honger books but unique and has a completely different plot and feel. Reminded me a bit of From Dusk Till Dawn as there is action throughout, but it isn’t until the end that you get totally get dragged into the insane world Terry West has created. As far as labeling this extreme horror, no chance. This was good horror, but on the horror spectrum, I would say this was quite tame. Fun story that I absolutely enjoyed, but the terror felt throughout doesn’t lend to something I would call extreme, more like a thriller. If you enjoyed or have yet to listen to the Honger books, this one is a great companion or an introduction.
I enjoyed the Anderson duo for the narration. They did a good job of balancing out the narration and really pull you into the story. Bryan provided a great range of voices for the characters and I really felt like I was right there with Binh trying to find our way to El Paso.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Disturbing and Dark
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
I usually enjoy Terry West's books, but this one wasn't great for me. I wasn't impressed with the narration, and found it prevented me from getting into the story. In addition, some of the terminology used to tell the story seemed unnecessarily crass. I expected explicit, but this one just was too over the top.

This book is so good!
This is a great good against evil story and the way many people would they would be in the same situation. I know I did and still do. If you love a good crime story mixed with drama in horror this is a book for you. Just a trigger though there is mutilation AN a lot of violence if you are trying to bother you shouldn’t be reading horrible it’s anyway, but if you do don’t read this one.
