a good place to learn

I've been looking for a place to explore new ideas for awhile and listening to this soothing voice is a great place for it. as long as your willing to relax your prospective and consider another viewpoint this is a great place to be.

My absolute favorite podcast

I have been interested in learning about philosophy for years, but I struggled to find a structure for approaching such a deep field of study. This podcast provided the structure I needed and more. Listening to Stephen talk about these individual philosophers has allowed me to decide which ones a want to pursue learning more about. Before I started listening to this podcast, I was in the midst of an existential crisis that had persisted for a few years, lost in the infinite as it were. While I'm still far too skeptical to accept any single world view, this podcast has helped me to start building my own island in the sea of infinite possibilities.

Just what I was looking for.

I absolutely loved this show. I only wish I had learned about it sooner. relatively recently, I learned of a quote by Marshall McLuhan that offered to me a profound philosophical insight for me. "There is no absolute inevitability. So long as there is a willingness to contemplate what is happening. " To my delight the simplest form of this insight was the ultimate conclusion of this show. Pay attention. since then everything I have learned as far as the philosophical work of Marshall McLuhan has perfectly aligned and grown my own understanding. I am truly grateful for your work on this. I was honestly quite saddened and a little discouraged when I searched McLuhans name into audible and found almost nothing as far as audible books go. I his was a mind we should know better as a society. because I don't think we've been paying close enough attention thus far.

Easy to follow intro into Philosophy

by far the best beginner intro to philosophy I found! Took me awhile to try and get into philosophy since many sources i found just made it seem too difficult & daunting.

Stephen smoothly eases you into it and I found it incredibly easy to follow along and so enjoyable!! I re-listen to some eps where my interest was piqued or even to help calm me through some hard days.

I listen to this on Spotify but i just came over here to add a review!

So highly recommended.

Mandatory Listening for Our Complex World

If - like me - you find yourself lost and confused in our modern age of hyperpolarized politics dominated by the voices of extremists on social media and pundits on TV, then this podcast is for you. Stephen West does an amazing job walking through the history of philosophy and relating all of the abstract concepts to modern life and the issues we face. Every episode has served a dual purpose in my life: it lays out the flaws in the arguments I was fighting against (but did not fully understand), and it shows me the biases and fallacies present in my own thinking. Now - instead of waking up every day feeling like a warrior in some sort of ideological war - I simply want to know more today than I did yesterday. Thank you, Stephen West!

Philosophize That!

If the world were just, Mr. West would receive an honorary doctorate in philosophy rather than the intellectual embarrassments who do. Mr. West presents many philosophical perspectives on similar grotesque mockeries of justice along with strategies for examining them.

To quote Lord Rutherford of Nelson: "An alleged scientific discovery has no merit unless it can be explained to a barmaid." I have enjoyed countless hours of Mr. West explaining philosophical discoveries to this barmaid,

I encourage you to join us at the bar.

Philosophy made interesting

Digestible stories with mostly objective context. Theses episodes are a GREAT way to meander your way through the thick and conflicting body of work that is philosophy. Stephen is immensely knowledgeable and a pleasure to listen to.

Simply the most accessible path to philosophy

I am a long time listener of this pod cast.
Prior to finding this podcast, I had an intent to learn philosophy, but has found the path to it laborious and very difficult.
I had tried reading /listening other books on philosophy but all they covered was life of that philosopher…
Stephen has an amazing way of breaking down complex philosophical concepts into bite size chunks which a person like me with limited time and capability can understand without losing on complex subtleties of subject.

I am very grateful to Stephen for all the efforts he puts to make philosophy accessible to layman like me.

Philosophy as it should be taught

Such an incredible podcast. I recommend it regularly, however not everyone can or wants to be a philosopher. Life is not about being right, it's about whether you understand.
