Publisher's Summary

New and old perspectives on metaphysics, life, and our entire existence.

Book 1: Thomas Aquinas

The Italian philosopher, Thomas Aquinas, has had a major impact on Christian theology, the uprise of Scholasticism, and the Roman Catholic Church. His renowned Summa Theologica emphasize the five pieces of evidence that God exists.

Book 2: David Hume

David Hume was a Scottish philosopher and historian. He was also known for his essays and economic analyses. He supported empiricism, skepticism, and naturalism in his own way, which sheds light on life and reasoning in a distinct manner he propagated in various, ethical ways.

Book 3: Erasmus

He stood for humanism, children’s rights, and theological ideologies that he wasn’t afraid to spread across the Dutch nation, which was going through some dramatic transformations at that time. His political and theological ideas should not be ignored, and as a Christian philosopher, he has had a huge impact on the distant culture of the Netherlands, Protestantism, and more.

Book 4: John Locke

Although considered a pure politician and idealist by some, John Locke’s philosophical views on life have inspired many to take a step back and reassess the nature of governments, property, and human rights. He was an advocate of freedom and liberty. His influence cannot be underestimated when looking at the philosophical debates that have been held since his time, let alone during his lifetime.

Book 5: Immanuel Kant

Immanuel Kant was born in the 18th Century, in Prussia. He set the stage for German philosophy in the following century. According to Kant, philosophy is the result of human reasoning. He reasoned about metaphysics, intelligible objects, and ethics.

Book 6: Plato

He founded one of the first organized academies in western civilization. His standings on life and perceptions have been quoted and referred to worldwide for centuries. He wrote about metaphysics, epistemology, and education.

Book 7: Rene Descartes

Hear more about the genius who laid the foundation of 17th-century rationalism. His rhetoric included statements about God, the universe, and our perceptions of reality.

Book 8: Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche’s influence on the world of philosophy has undoubtedly been impressive. So what are we to think of this German thinker? Is his look on life and the universe truly negative? Or was he just misunderstood?

Book 9: Karl Marx

Communism has been frowned on and praised equally among nations. Some communist nations have collapsed, other ones are still intact in one way or another. Find out what went through the mind of the man who invented this system as a response to the increasing gap between the rich and the poor.

Helpful

To learn more about the philosophers of the ages (not all of them, but at least 11 of them), you need to know about their background to understand them, plus you should also know their main points of perspective. This guide does a great job at that.

Each of the books has an intro, a history, and the main works or quotes from that philosopher, which is exactly what I was looking for.

This is great

A wonderful way to learn more about all the different insights and the different takes on life and the universe. Some were geniuses, others were a little off in my opinion, but that doesn't take away from the information in this book, which is very accurate. You can check all that online if you want to be sure. But to listen to it in an audiobook adds something, though.

Personally, I was most impressed with the religious ones, like Erasmus and Thomas Aquinas. Then again, Rene Descartes made up a whole theory about the reason why God exists. All very interesting. Karl Marx was more of a societal, economical one, just like John Locke, who focused more on politics.

I recommend this book. Great way to spend your credit and get over 11 hours of content.

Nice compilation

I recognize a single book wouldn't contain all of the works of all philosophers, but this is a good selection that triggered my curiosity and satisfied it shortly afterwards. This is a great book. Several narrators are in this one. I liked the last the best.

Philosophy explained

I was especially ecstatic about Plato, one of the classics, and Rene Descartes, whom I read a lot about.

A book bundle or box set like this makes you think.... all these different wise men with all their different insights... there is so much knowledge out there, we just have to find it. I recommend this book.

The best

This is truly the best philosophers. There might be one or two of them missing, but it's good.

Perfect

This is exactly what I wanted: A combination of some of their most important ideas, background, and history. Yeah, sure, you can read all their elaborate works where they beat around the bush to get to the point, but this is a concise synopsis of each fo these philosophers, and that's how I like it.

Amazing book

This has so many thoughts about life, so many philosophies, and it's kind of like religion and like seeing all these different insights about reality.

Excellent

Out of all the different philosophers in here, Erasmus was my favorite. I was also intrigued with David Hume and John Locke. I didn't know very much about them yet. This is an excellent read. Recommended.

Enjoyed this

This is the best way to go through college: To just sit in a chair and listen to what the basics are of each of these philosophers. I wish there were more books like this out there.

Lovely

I was surprised by the 11 hours of content I could get with my credit and learn a little about all these 11 different philosophers and influencers. These great thinkers paved the way for may others and stepped out of the banal patterns of their times.

All the philosophers

I really appreciate people putting books out there like this one. Some of the narrators were better than others, but overall very enjoyable.

Intriguing

I was sincerely interested in this, since I have always been thinking a lot about life. I have seen philosophers' books and works in paperbacks and hardcovers, but it is that much more enjoyable to listen to it. Great narrators, all of them.

Intriguing content

All the thoughts about life can be summarized in this multi-view on life's purpose by all these philosophers. I guess I do like the diversity of this book.

ALl in 1

Liked this. All the philosoophers in 1 bundle. Great way to spend my credit. Recommended. Different narrators. So some sound better than others. But that wasn't a problem.
