Publisher's summary

Married once to a Baron who needed a young bride to bear him an heir, Cordelia Astley found herself in an untenable situation after his death, until Philip Stanley, the Marquess of Dunbury, asked her to be his bride. She knows he didn't marry her for love, but he was her white knight, and once they're married, she finds herself falling in love with him. It would be a fairy-tale ending if it wasn't for her stepdaughter, Gabrielle.

Having observed his cousins Hugh and Eleanor find happiness in their respective marriages, Philip doesn't see why his marriage should be any different. Especially since he managed to find a giving, submissive, delightful woman that drew him like no woman had ever done before. Everything would be perfect, except that she allows her stepdaughter to denigrate her and manipulate her. His method of correction for both Cordelia and Gabrielle isn't what either lady expected, but Cordelia finds confidence in his support and care of her.... If only she would put him first instead of Gabrielle, Philip's life would be everything he'd hoped.

A sexy spanking tale of desire, passion, and love, Philip's Rules is the first of a new series spin-off of the Domestic Discipline Quartet (you do not need to know the quartet to enjoy this audiobook).

Philip's Rules is an 80,000-word standalone novel set in Victorian times with a HEA and contains domestic discipline, spanking, birching, paddling, anal play and sex, the exciting danger of illicit situations, and some seriously delicious alpha men.

Loved it!

Nice start to the series. It has steam - drama - fantasy. What else could a girl want in a novel? Well worth the credit 😊

Sound very poor

This was actually an enjoyable story and fairly erotic. The performance of the narrator was mediocre at best and he sounded like he was in a metal tunnel. Better narration and sound would have enhanced this book.

Enjoyable

Although historical novels are not normally a genre I read/listen too, I went in with an open mind. Both the author Golden Angel and narrator Brian Briar were knew to me.

Cordelia is a sweet, submissive woman, lost and alone after the death of her husband. When Phillip asks her to marry him, she truly has no idea what she is getting into and the life that she would lead.
I liked Phillips and could certainly see him swooping in to save Cordelia. Although Cordelia frustrated me at times and I was annoyed by the behaviour of Gabrielle, a spoilt brat who really needed to be taken in hand.

This was a fairly spicy book to listen to and there were certainly some extremely hot scenes. There are some elements of BDSM and Phillip was definitively an alpha male.

The secondary character of Felix was great and I am more than intrigued by him. All in all, a well narrated book that was certainly steamy.

Historical Romance

I love Golden Angel's Venus Rising Series so even though I had never read, or had any interest in reading, a historical romance book, I decided to give this book a try. I actually liked it better than I expected I would. I thought Gabrielle was a spoiled brat but I really liked Philip and Cordelia. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series to follow the lives of these interesting characters. Needs a different narrator.

Like the first series the writing is superb.
The narrator doesn't pull off the English aristocracy. He doesn't have any accent and just sounds wrong. There also were some places where I didn't know what he said, mispronounced words. I think he would have done better with American characterizations. He was for the most part listenable. But he was wrong for this book.
I'll probably still listening to this again but probably not as much as the first series to this second series.

Great story, less than perfect narration

Love the story, but having a male narrator try to do female voices was like listening to Monty Python falsetto. other than that aspect a great story.
