Publisher's Summary

This program is read by the author.

The inspiring, influential senator and best-selling author mixes vivid personal stories with a passionate plea for political transformation.

Elizabeth Warren is a beacon for everyone who believes that real change can improve the lives of all Americans. Committed, fearless, and famously persistent, she brings her best game to every battle she wages.

In Persist, Warren writes about six perspectives that have influenced her life and advocacy. She’s a mother who learned from wrenching personal experience why child care is so essential. She’s a teacher who has known since grade school the value of a good and affordable education. She’s a planner who understands that every complex problem requires a comprehensive response. She’s a fighter who discovered the hard way that nobody gives up power willingly. She’s a learner who thinks, listens, and works to fight racism in America. And she’s a woman who has proven over and over that women are just as capable as men.

Candid and compelling, Persist is both a deeply personal audiobook and a powerful call to action. Elizabeth Warren - one of our nation’s most visionary leaders - will inspire everyone to believe that if we’re willing to fight for it, profound change is well within our reach.

Lifr-Changing

Everybody needs the message in this book. I have to admit, I'm a Liz fan, and still I was blown away by her words.

Thoughtful, caring, concise, pallette cleansing,, easy listening, and love are a few words that I'd use to describe this book.

A “Plan” to destroy America

First, I applaud Warren for her perseverance and her hard work. She is passionate and convicted about her work. She seems like a very decent person.

Unfortunately, I disagree with her “Plan.” It’s a plan of having the government do everything and requiring little individual accountability. It is a rather simple plan of taking money from one group and giving to another. It is essentially a wealth redistribution through wealth tax (tied to estate tax in one case) and vilifies that group that has often worked hard to achieve where they are now. To me, it destroys the incentives in the US and is intellectually dishonest. The incentive part is that people do amazing things here in the US because of the rewards available. We are the toast of the world in creating new businesses and new products. No one compares with us (although China is gaining quickly.) That will all go away with Warren’s plan. There is no incentive. We will become Europe. There are no big new companies in Europe with their socialism - no Microsoft, no Amazon, no Google, no Facebook, no Starbucks, no Netflix. The only reason Europe is still relevant is because they extracted trillions of dollars centuries ago. They have become stifled since. Keep in mind the main economists Warren reveres are European – Thomas Piketty (Capital in the 21st Century) and Gabriel Zucman and Emmanuel Saez (The Triumph of Injustice.) Her plan will simply make us Europe where we won’t compete globally any longer.

Her plan is intellectually dishonest in how she talks about the wealth tax. She says it just 2 cents per dollar. That’s not true. In order to fund her Universal Healthcare, it jumps to 6 cents. And, when you give it 10 years, just 10 years, it’s effectively over half of someone’s wealth. It’s not just 2 cents. It’s all the wealth that somebody has worked hard (and been taxed on) all their lives to make happen. With her estate tax plan as well, there will be nothing left – because of that there is no incentive to work hard. And once you’ve taxed this small group, who do you tax next? At some point with her “Plan” there will be no one else left to tax.

If you want something more honest, look at some of Ray Dalio’s work on Biden’s Tax and Spend Plan. Warren and other progressives often say the rich don’t pay taxes. In the Dalio’s analysis, top payers are paying about 50% of what they make in taxes. They work 50% of the year already for the government. Biden’s plan will add another 5% so now they will work over half the year for the government. With Warren’s plan, it will likely be three quarters of the year for the government. There will be no incentive to work hard. What will Warren tax then?

If only

Elizabeth Warren Had won the presidential race. We would live in a much different world, one where little girls I would not dream of becoming anything less than president. Those little girls would also have access to education and child care. They would have access to affordable housing and live in neighborhoods that we’re kept up to date. If Elizabeth Warren runs again I hope thousands of little girls will support her.

Politics through storytelling

Told through anecdotes from Warren's own life and presidential campaign, we hear about today's many societal problems in America - and how to fix them. The author is undoubtedly a great storyteller, talking about politics in a personal manner and mapping out an ideal future worth fighting for.

Hearing this audiobook was an absolute joy, in great deal thanks to Warren's unmatched ability to energize and enthrall her audience. Her deeply rooted enthusiasm shines through and it doesn't feel like she reads this book at all. Instead, it's just like listening to someone speaking right from their heart.
