Publisher's summary

In the thousand-sun network of humanity's expansion, new colony worlds are struggling to find their way. Every new planet lives on a knife-edge between collapse and wonder, and the crew of the aging gunship, Rocinante, have their hands more than full keeping the fragile peace.

In the vast space between Earth and Jupiter, the inner planets and the Belt have formed a tentative and uncertain alliance still haunted by a history of wars and prejudices. On the lost colony world of Laconia, a hidden enemy has a new vision for all of humanity and the power to enforce it. New technologies clash with old as the history of human conflict returns to its ancient pattern of war and subjugation. But human nature is not the only enemy, and the forces being unleashed have their own price. A price that will change the shape of humanity - and of the Rocinante - unexpectedly and forever....

once more unto the breach Holden goes

if you have become a fan of thevseries this is a must read. if not, get it just for the joy of listeing to jefferson mays' narration.
as the next in the expanse saga this ticks all the blocks of chracters development, plot and society exposed to new tech (epstein fusion drives and alien protomolecule). for the real science of scifi this falls short only the forerunners have done such a great job of illustration. In this book, the authors explore the full extent of the political ramifications and it's ultimate conclusions of the rise of empires.
as a collective the expanse series is not crowned by perseplis but rather well supported and able to stand alone. its a great scifi romp with all the ingredients like marine fist fights, space battles, combat stratergy, romance, desire for power and much more.

Maybe the best one yet

I find it hard to review books without giving spoilers so I'll just say that this is another awesome entry in the series, as the title says I think it might even be the best one so far. Can't wait for book 8!

Starting to drag

When you build your book around a sequel, it's starting to feel not at great.

When you have written yourself into a corner

I almost didn't get through this story as I was constantly irritated by the "magic" like advantages they had to give their main antagonist in order for them to be even slightly relevant to the overall story.
To me it seems like the authors had written themselves in to a corner and had to break many of the logical rules the had established throughout the series. Which is too bad because I really liked the previous books, but this was a major let down.

Don't get your hopes too high up for this story.

Narration variety

Narration lacks voice variety but I was still very happy with the book. It is a safe pick if you're looking for an audio book for The Expanse series.

Continued excellence

The expanse series takes me back to the best sci fi I’ve read over the last 40+ years. Brilliant dialogue, personalities, ideas, perspective. It’s very hard to find writing this good.

Series dialled back up to 11 with this one

I struggled with Cibola Burn, Nemesis Games re-energised me, Babylon's Ashes got the series back to great. Now Persepolis Rising is showing us the grand story arch the writers have been planning all along and I'm starting Tiamat's War right after submitting this review.
