Publisher's summary

In this witty debut novel, Elizabeth Topp crafts a story that ventures behind the fanciful facade of Park Avenue and into the life of one lovable type A assistant.

Anna’s job is simple: prevent the unexpected from happening and do everything better than perfectly. An artist at heart, Anna works a day job as a private assistant for Bambi Von Bizmark, a megarich Upper East Side matriarch who’s about to be honored at the illustrious Opera Ball.

Caught between the staid world of great wealth and her unconventional life as an artist, Anna struggles with her true calling. If she’s supposed to be a painter, why is she so much more successful as a personal assistant? When her boyfriend lands a fancy new job, it throws their future as a couple into doubt and intensifies Anna’s identity crisis. All she has to do is ensure everything runs smoothly and hold herself together until the Opera Ball is over. How hard could that be?

Featuring a vibrant array of characters from the powerful to the proletarian, Perfectly Impossible offers a glimpse into a world you’ll never want to leave.

The narrator was terrible

The director of this Audible book has to carry the blame. The narration was over the top for the entire storey. I'm sorry I didn't read the reviews until after I purchased the book.

Funny and Delightful

The book is very funny and light hearted. I laughed so much, it made my work day go by ALMOST unnoticed.

Fun romp

I didn’t know what to expect, but hoped for a fun listen. This did not disappoint. The bonus is a peek into the world of the Uber Rich.

Narration was fantastic!!!

Good summer read!

I normally would not select this type of contemporary fiction. I selected it from my First Reads of the month freebie. As I started to listen to the story during pockets of long car rides and beach days, I couldn’t help but assume I wouldn’t care one iota about these characters and their circumstances. Anna is a millennial, whom despite working very hard in her professional life, expects everything to fall in place because she wills it so in her personal life.

The VBMs, well their absurdities due to their wealth and privilege, is comically pathetic but, before I knew it, I became interested in the twists and turns and comedy of it all. No summer read would be complete without positive resolution so my story rating is a 3.

I would have liked Anna to make some real decisions about her life as well as she executed for impossible employers.

Literally cannot finish

I’m not a literary snob - I love a good beach read, but this book was just insipid. I’m halfway through and there is not one likeable character - maybe Peony but she’s 9 and I’m sure she will be horrendous in a few years too. The Uber rich have not a shred of decency and those that cater to them are simply ridiculous.

As an aside, that idiots like Chester can get into Harvard, rather than interesting, intelligent, hardworking NORMAL students, is what makes those Ivy League schools irrelevant. I would say the same for the lifestyles of these Uber wealthy - they are so out of touch with reality it’s not even amusing or witty. Even Miranda Priestly had a sense of humor and a human side- these people are just disgusting. Irritated that I wasted 5 hours of my life on this book.
