Publisher's summary

A debut collection of witty, biting essays laced with a surprising warmth, from Jen Mann, the writer behind the popular blog People I Want to Punch in the Throat...

People I want to punch in the throat:

  • Anyone who feels the need to bling her washer and dryer
  • Humblebraggers
  • People who treat their pets like children

Jen Mann doesn't have a filter, which sometimes gets her in trouble with her neighbors, her fellow PTA moms, and that one woman who tried to sell her sex toys at a home shopping party. Known for her hilariously acerbic observations on her blog, People I Want to Punch in the Throat, Mann now brings her sharp wit to bear on suburban life, marriage, and motherhood in this laugh-out-loud collection of essays. From the politics of joining a play group, to the thrill of mothers' night out at the gun range, to the rewards of your most meaningful relationship (the one you have with your cleaning lady), nothing is sacred or off-limits. So the next time you find yourself wearing fuzzy bunny pajamas in the school carpool line or accidentally stuck at a coworker's swingers party, just think, What would Jen Mann do? Or better yet, buy her book.

Everything I want to say but don’t

I have never listen to an audiobook in the car that made me laugh out loud multiple times while driving to work. It was some thing that during the book I recommended to all of my friends Jen knocked it out of the park.

You are not alone!

I really enjoyed listening to this book on a recent road trip. Jen is honest and authentic. There were quite a few moments they had me thinking, “I’m not the only one!” Now trying to listen to the Christmas edition but had to turn it off because (even though I had the sound only coming out of one speaker in the car, my 8 year old could hear it and let’s just say there’s some questioning of whether a certain jolly someone exists.

Thank you Jen Mann!!

Witty but repetitive

I gave up half way through. The author seems like someone I would get along with but there doesn’t seem like enough meat to hold this into a whole book.

Different then what I thought

Not the type of book I thought it would be. I thought this would be some sort of hilarious novel. Instead it is an autobiography which should’ve been titled “Waaahhhh! All the parts of my first world/privileged life that I find annoying” Each chapter is a different funny story from the authors life, not necessarily in order but easy to listen to. If you can relate to the author then this book is very funny. She is married with 2 children, as am I. When she deals with silly conversations with her husband or putting up with ridiculous moms and their children at her kids school you can relate. The narrator is also the author so the acting isn’t great but you can feel the annoyance from the person who actually lived these stories.

Boring, not funny, and kind of mean

The author is the narrator and it sounds like she's reading a book, not performing a book as many narrators do. this is not the quality that I expect from audible. I persevered through most of this book, thinking it would get better. It didn't. It's really meanness disguised as humor and, for me, it just didn't work.
