Lively

A very lively outing for Penric and Dez. With moments of humor, the return of some characters from older stories, and well developed plot, the story shines. I enjoyed it very much.

Fine fir completists, don’t start series here

It’s possible my review might improve if I listen to this again, but not even the fine vocal stylings of Grover Gardner drew me in to this story. I was repeatedly distracted from it. Aside from being not as compelling as I would like, and the solution to the plot mystery being clear early on, the interaction of several demons was a rare event of interest to series readers for character arc/plot.

A really good tale.

I like the author’s ideas of deity and the supernatural. In addition she tells a good tale in any genera she is writing in!

Penric solves a mystery

Penric is enjoying a relaxing day fishing with his Shaman friend Inglas, when they are both requested by law man/Locator Oswyl. A temple sorcerer has been found dead from arrow wounds. Who killed her? What happened to her demon? And why?

Penric, with assistance from Inglas and others, especially Pen's Demon Desdemona ultimately solve the mystery. And I found it an entertaining mystery/fantasy story. But the real deep joy of the story is to watch the evolving relationships between Penric, Desdemona, and all the rest of the very real characters, including the Princess Arch Divine. I have grown to love these characters.

And, as always, Grover Gardner does a great job of reading the tale. The entire Penric/Desdemona saga is a delight. In internal chronological order, at time of publication this novella comes third, after Penric's Demon and Penric and the Shaman, and before Penric's Mission.

As always...

LM Bujold’s storytelling is second to none, regardless of the setting or plot. “Penric’s Fox” is a wonderful listen! Grover Gardner does a superb job, too!

Lovely story... as usual.

Everything LMB writes is exceptional... either profoundly, or just lovely. She is maybe my favorite author. Can never go wrong.

Interesting twist in this storyline

Penric visits with Inglis and Oswyl when he accompanies the princess archdivine to the capital of Easthome. Oswyl requests their assistance when called to investigate the murder of a Temple Sorceress. The story develops as they try to determine what happened to her demon, which leads them to the murderer.
They are each interested in the knowledge of the others, and in how that applies to their own calling. Well done.
While it can stand on it’s own, this book is much better understood and enjoyed if read in series sequence.
Love Gardner’s narration, as always. He’s definitely in the top tier of narrators.
Recommend.
