Publisher's Summary

"In a clear voice that lets the writing shine, Frankie Corzo narrates this detailed dive into American politics centered on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Corzo's portrayal of the most powerful woman in American political history showcases Pelosi's tireless energy and radiating impact, as well as the landscape at large." (AudioFile Magazine)

An intimate, fresh perspective on the most powerful woman in American political history, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, by award-winning political journalist Molly Ball.

She’s the iconic leader who puts Donald Trump in his place, the woman with the toughness to take on a lawless president and defend American democracy. Ever since the Democrats took back the House in the 2018 midterm elections, Nancy Pelosi has led the opposition with strategic mastery and inimitable elan. It’s a remarkable comeback for the veteran politician who for years was demonized by the right and taken for granted by many in her own party - even though, as speaker under President Barack Obama, she deserves much of the credit for epochal liberal accomplishments from universal health care to gays in the military. How did a 79-year-old Italian grandmother in four-inch heels become the greatest legislator since LBJ - and how will she manage her greatest challenge yet, impeachment?

Ball’s nuanced portrait takes listeners inside the life and times of this historic and underappreciated figure. Based on exclusive interviews with the Speaker and deep background reporting, Ball shows Pelosi through a thoroughly modern lens to explain how this extraordinary woman has met her moment.

Narration hampers a good read

Enjoyed this political bio, but like many audible books I’m left scratching my head on the narration. This narrator isn’t the worst but she has a way of dropping o’s that is extremely distracting and grating (for example Burton=Burt’n).

Fair balanced story of Nancy Pelosi's life

I really enjoyed the story of Nancy Pelosi's political life. She is a strong woman with strong ideas. Men would probably call her "uppity". I consider her tenacious. However, she was the right woman at the right time that helped our nation persevere. My only complaint with the presentation was the reading was too fast. I had to slow it down.

Narrator sounds like a robot

The content of the book is interesting but the voice sounds like a robot reading it. I tried to continue listening, but the metallic sound of the voice is so unpleasant I am returning the book. Is the narrator a real person or AI?

Pelosi is an American Icon who will be revered by history and America

I can only applaud what Madam Speaker strove to accomplish. She will go down in history as one of the most important American women. I hope her work inspires young people every where to work for the common good.
Ms. Ball did a great job documenting what occurred in the years during Mrs. Pelosi’s tenure in Congress. Excellent read.

Impressive Subject and Compelling Reporting

I’ve felt differently about Nancy Pelosi over the years but come away from this biography impressed and frankly in awe. It’s no hagiography. Her shortcomings are laid bare but her accomplishments and doggedness run roughshod over them. Excellent book. The narrator, however, was bothersome if only because she cannot enunciate any word with a center T. Barton, Clinton, any -ton word. It drove me crazy and diminished my enjoyment of the book. Why have a narrator that cannot speak English properly?

An eye opener

A terrific picture of an amazing woman! I think moat of us have no idea of the amount of intelligence, hard work and endurance that she brings to the job.

Poor Narration

Enjoyed the book very much, but was annoyed by the changing tone of the narrator, as if inserting edits. I’ve listened to other Audible books that didn’t feature this detail.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

Although I thought I knew the story of Nancy Pelosi, this really was an in-depth chronicle of her early life as the daughter of a politician all through her life as a wife and mother. Then, as a middle aged suburban housewife to the Speaker of the House. What a story! I loved listening as I took my daily walk during the Covid pandemic.

well worth a listen

Finished this book quite quickly. It's policy heavy and personality light though, that may be the nature of the subject rather than the research

Political masterclass

An enthralling story of someone who understands that indeed “politics rules your life from the cradle to the grave”.
Pelosi with her “just win baby” attitude will be seen by history as the cryptonite to Trump.
