Publisher's summary

Her husband died suddenly and mysteriously, potential enemies surround her, bankruptcy looms, and the fabulous Black Trinity necklace that was to be her financial security has vanished. Now desperate and alone, Hannah McGarry has no choice but to turn to Archer Donovan, one-time silent partner in her late husband's Pearl Cove pearl-farming venture.

Archer would like to forget he'd ever heard of Pearl Cove and the dark memories it conjures up. But an outstanding debt is pulling him back into the lethal game alongside a beautiful, frightened woman who may know more than she is telling about a strange death and a missing treasure. Dangerous, uncharted waters lie ahead of them in their race for answers. And the closer they get to the coveted Black Trinity and its secrets, the closer Hannah and Archer come to their own inevitable ends.

Listen to another Donovan gem.

Critic reviews

"Readers who have waited impatiently for this third book about the Donovan family won't be disappointed. Lowell combines her trademark sophisticated suspense and sexual intensity with a plot rich in the fascinating lore of cultured pearls and full of Australian atmosphere and the sights and sounds of Seattle." My favorite of the Donovan Series...

To really enjoy this book to the max, you should listen to all of the series in the proper order, Amber Beach, Jade Island, Pearl Cove, Midnight in Ruby Bayou. Although it does bog down a bit in the books on the abundance of detailed information on gems, you just can't beat the relationships/family/romance mix that Lowell does so well with this series. Archer was my favorite and Hannah gives him a run for his money. Great listen - enjoy!

Not a mystery story

This is what I think is called a romance novel, I bought it under the heading of Mystery. Very little mystery, smarmy sex story and lots of information on pearls- colors, cleaning, kinds etc. Not what I expected.

Pearl Cove

Like all the books in this series, the author spends way too much time explaining the intricacies of the particular gem trade she’s focusing on for each book. I would be happy if she had skimmed over that part, lol. But the love story & the action & revisiting previous couples was very enjoyable, so overall I give it a thumbs up.

The narrator on the other hand did a lousy job with all the accents. I guess I have to give her credit for trying, but even I know a Hawaiian accent is not the same as a Chinese one, and Hannah’s Aussie accent came & went like the breeze. But putting all that aside, there really wasn’t much emotion in her readingn iow, it was kind of flat.

a good end to the trilogy

At least I think It's just a trilogy, there would be room for more stories in this series if the author so chose. This book focuses on a third member of the Donovan family and a different gem, this one being pearls. I learned more about the gem trade in these three books than I ever would have otherwise and I didn't even know I wanted to. These books are romance thrillers and they could stand alone just on the thriller part. But, what I've learned about books in the romance genre is that there is usually some pretty hot sex and I guess I'm not complaining as this book didn't disappoint in that regard. This trilogy was my first experience with author Elizabeth Lowell, I'll have to check Audible to see if there are any other good ones.

Enjoyable.

I enjoyed this listen but wouldn't rank it as one of Elizabeth Lowell's best. The characters are engaging but sometimes a bit unbelievable and there are times the plot wanders. Despite this there was a solid enough mix of action, romance and mystery to make me reluctant to hit the 'pause' button.

Not bad. 3.5

Really learned to dislike the heroine. Great hero. Could have been better.
Lowell has such diverse writing topics, I believe it's hit or miss. This is a miss for me. The enchanted series is great. Even to the ends of the earth. This was lackluster. Narration very good.

Enjoyed

This was the best of the series - even though I found the narrator lacking. I wanted to hear more or Archer and Hannah’s story!

Another great story by an amazing author!

I love the intensity and danger that follows the Donovans and have fallen in love with their stories. Narration was great and well matched to the story!

Story Stronger than Reader

Because the setting is Australia for the first part of the book, the reader's inability to speak like an Aussie was painful. At least she gave up after the first few chapters with only a few sentences here or there where the she gives it another try. I'm not fussy about readers, I am disappointed in Rowan's attempt at an accent. I have to give her credit, though, for giving up through most of the book--it was why I could get through it.
The story itself was interesting and I liked the interaction of the Donovans. Less than happy with the heroine who got to be a bit aggravating but I made it through. I've enjoyed Elizabeth Lowells other books more. I suspect I mgiht have liked Pearl Cove more if I read it and skipped this recorded version.
