Publisher's Summary

Peak Marcello is a 14-year-old who loves to climb things. Unfortunately, living in New York City makes his hobby difficult. After a run-in with the law, Peak is presented with two options: endure Juvenile Detention or reconnect with his estranged father, who runs a climbing operation in Thailand. The choice is easy for Peak, but his father has an ulterior motive for their reunion: he wants his son to risk his life and become the youngest person to ever scale Mount Everest.

Roland Smith's novels for young adults have received wide acclaim, from publications such as Library Journal and Booklist, for their intense realism.

Recommended By Daughter

My teenage daughter has read Peak about 3 times and likes it so much, that she keeps wanting me to read it as well to get my opinion of it. After lots of persuading me to do so, I finally decided to give it a try. Although it is not up to the same level as her recommendation of Fault In Our Stars, it was still pretty decent, with good character development, a nice storyline, and strong narration. The story itself was quite heart warming, and I especially enjoyed the way the author chose to end Peak's journey. Not sure I would recommend this book to other adults, but for the younger audience, it is certainly worth listening to. It

Great book

I read this book it was a great book for a kid. If was about a kid in juvenile hall than his dad bailed him out. Peak will face big challenges to try to reach the top

Good Moral

Enjoyed the story, cover family, friendship, and moral. only if the “gasp” can be real “gasp” rather then read aloud the word “gasp”

Good all around

It was fun, exciting, powerful, meaningful, insightful and purposeful. Our entire family enjoyed it - 8yr to 40yr. Performance was not overly dramatic, accents were not that engaging, but it was straightforward which actually helped with the nature of the storytelling. It took a bit of getting used to, but was behind it in the end. Highly recommend.

Not the best

I really didn’t like this book. Had weird parts in it and sometimes confusing. If you would like a book to sit down and read, not this book.

Inspirational

As a father and lover of the outdoors I found Peak's depth, wisdom, and sense of adventure inspirational. As a father I am inspired to give my kids more room to grow. As a lover of the outdoors I want to regain a teenager's pure love for God's awesome great creation!
