Publisher's summary

A train roars over the rails, carrying passengers on a trip that will change their lives. Among the many people aboard the 97 Silver Meteor are Andie Crystal, a lonely young woman hiding from her youth as a reality TV star; Matthew Scofield, a widower trying to manage his responsibilities to his two young children; and Janette Turlington, a middle-aged mother running from a situation that has destroyed the peace in her home and marriage.

These three form a makeshift family on an Amtrak tour through the Southern seaboard, a journey that just might heal their wounded hearts and restore them to the people to whom they matter most....

Excellent

What made the experience of listening to Passing Strangers the most enjoyable?

The story was very captivating. It never lagged or was boring. The reader did a very good job and each character was fully portrayed.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was a Christian book, but not preachy. Each main character had a problem that was finally resolved. Only one main character was a Christian in the book, but it left you with hope for the others.

What about Lia Frederick’s performance did you like?

She was able to portray each person with a difference so you didn't feel like it was just being read to you. You felt like you could hear each person speak

If you could rename Passing Strangers, what would you call it?

Finding Friends

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend. My first book with audible. Made the whole experience worthwhile. Listened to the whole book in one sitting.

Christian Fiction

This is a wonderful story, weaving together the lives of three families and three adults, dealing with family problems and challenges. One woman had spent her life, trying to stay out of her famous family's limelight--to finally realize through the help of two other train travelers, that family is important, no matter how difficult. Another woman had run away from her family situation; she could not deal with her daughter's emotional problems and abuse any longer. Through the course of her trip, with the friendship of the other traveler's and a divine encounter, she finds courage to face a life-threatening situation. The final passenger is dealing with the loss of his wife--the one who cared for his two children and without whom he did not know how to cope or interact with his kids. Their encounter on the train changes all of their lives for the good and forms lasting relationships. A very enjoyable story, excellently crafted and narrated. It is uplifting and gives life lessons on relationships and how necessary people are to each other. I would recommend this book. It is my first audible experience and definitely not my last. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

Good book

I liked the message of the book a lot but there were some parts of it that were a bit kookie. Like the man/angel visiting her. Also, I wasn't to keen on the narrator. It sounded like she messed up reading a lot.
It was a good book to listen to but just not my favorite.

A very enjoyable read

A refreshing story. No bad language etc. 3 ordinary people each with a personal struggle. They are basically thrown together and a wonderful friendship develops. They learn that nothing is too hard with loyal friends.

Three Stories in One

Where does Passing Strangers rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Passing Strangers was beautifully written and by far the most enjoyable audio book that I've listened to on Audible thus far.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jeanette. She is a woman probably about my age and in some similar life situations. She runs away but finds the courage to engage and then come back and face her challenges and see the gifts she has in front of her.

Which scene was your favorite?

Jeanette talking to "Morgan Freeman"! :)

If you could take any character from Passing Strangers out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Jeanette - I'd like to ask her how things are going now, and how she's healing after all the trauma that she's endured.

Any additional comments?

I love Angela Hunt's writing, she is an amazing storyteller and Passing Strangers was a well-crafted story.

Life changing friendships

An unexpected train journey for three individuals ends in life changing friendships. Angela Hunt takes a former child actress who is in hiding, a widower with 2 young children and a middle-aged housewife running away from home and transforms them from strangers to friends. Using three individual, yet intertwined, stories, Hunt touches on issues that affect many lives, often times without others knowing. Strained family relationships, death, child care and abuse are familiar challenges and Hunt gives believable resolution to these situations in her novel. My copy of this novel was an audio book and the reader did a good job and seemed to have a grasp of the characters' "voices". Passing Strangers is an inspirational message that God the Father is with us in our life challenges and He makes divine appointments for us in our life journeys. Don't miss this book!
I received an audio copy of this book through The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
