Thorough and well organized

Thorough and well organized, from child's perspective, written by an SLP for parents.. It gives analogies that really “translate” medical concepts and therapeutic ideas into understandable and digestible points. She includes a helpful section to help understand medical jargon. If you are concerned about a child's attention level, this could save you weeks of research.

Well researched

I found this book very helpful, although I wish I had discovered it when my children were younger. I appreciate how well researched the book is. I also think there are many parts of the book that would be great to share with children and young adults. It is not just for parents.

Knowledgeable and great writing style

This was a great book to listen to and I really appreciated the free PDF copy of the book. It allowed me to read a section that was particularly interesting or informative after listening to it. Busting the myths of ADHD in the first chapter was great. Also good were the analogies used throughout the book - they communicated complex concepts really effectively. For example - the neurotransmitters in the brain are like mail carriers, in the ADHD brain they are slower, like mail carriers who are constantly running out of gas. Reading this gave me hope and great strategies that were easily implemented. Sometimes as a parent with all the chaos in the house I feel like my brain has fallen out. Sometimes the strategies seemed very simple, but I was never able to come up with that idea.... and low and behold these ideas really do work (see chapter on home environment). I also like the chapter on the balance of exercise, sleep and screen time (my husband always fought me on this, but after listening to the book he got it).

I love this narrator, new experience

Everything is broken down very well with numbers and statistics. So many books don't give you those details, and it adds a great touch. They have a wealth and support online that you can join and discuss with others! You get to learn from neurotransmitters to brain structure. It was great to learn about genes passing down traits that bring us one step closer to understanding everything before us. I didn't know there were different types of ADHD. These details of senses and emotions become obvious as you understand the struggles separating fact from fiction. How the author worded the words you'll find a very entertaining, (i heard a GI Joe line in there) creative and i've become a HUGE fan of this authors products. You know it wasn't faked, this is real. II'll be listening to this a few more times because it was wonderful to listen to. If you're looking for a ADHD made simple book this will be a wonderful experience.
