Practical but not very helpful

I was a bit disappointed in this. It has practical advice but addresses things from a psychological standpoint. So, I disagree with a lot of it. A lot of what teens are going through in these days are spiritual. Depression, identity issues, rebellion and it doesn’t address this at all.

Great listen!

Great book with really important information inside. Fairly easy listen. I like the examples it provides, because you can remember a time where you were one of the given parents in the situations, which helps with learning why things do/don't work. Great listen and would recommend any parent (or individual who works/interacts with children) listen this!

Worth the investment

The thing about this approach that I love so much is that it encourages us to be deliberate in how we parent, and in how we work with children. There is another version for teachers- also worth the investment.

Well explained book!

This is an incredibly well explained book! I now understand how to be a more effective parent, helping my kids grow to be capable and independent. I no longer engage in fights and power struggles. I wait to cool down before trying to figure out how to solve a problem with my kids. I take better care of myself, so I have more to give to my family. I have a better understanding of why I am the way that I am, and I've learned to appreciate others more for who they are. Our house is a much calmer and happier place!

Offers a lot of suggestions

Finally a book that offers suggestions and advice that work, instead of just theory. I used the book for toddlers with great success with my two daughters and now and using this book. I give it to moms to be as gifts and they comment that now they give the book as well….because it works! If you really practice what he suggests you will be amazed. Wish he had a book for spouses lol!

Provides amazing ideas

This book offers some amazing ideas that I believe children everywhere would greatly benefit from. It explains why "kids these days" don't have the same sense of responsibility and respect that they had in the past. There is a strong focus on letting go of the idea that making a child feel worse will then make them do better. The focus is on solutions and long-term outcome...not punishment and immediate behavior. It is not, however, about "letting them get away with it" (whatever "it" may be). It explains the difference between praise and encouragement, a difficult but important distinction.
