Publisher's summary

It's been 10 years since humanity's war with the monstrous Kaiju ended and the Breach at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean was sealed. The Pan Pacific Defense Corps remains vigilant in anticipation of the Kaiju's return, expanding and advancing their fleet of massive mechs known as Jaegers and accepting the best and the brightest candidates into the Jaeger Academy Training Program to forge the next generation of heroes. Training is competitive and positions are few.

Ou-Yang Jinhai and Viktoriya Malikova grew up in the ashes of the Kaiju War and followed different paths to join the latest batch of cadets at the Moyulan Shatterdome, the most prestigious PPDC training location in the world. Yet not long after their arrival, tragedy strikes as a deadly act of sabotage casts suspicion on the new cadets. Together they must work to clear their name and discover the truth as dark forces conspire against them and new threats surface from both sides of the Breach....

Amazing

The book was great. A little slow at the beginning, and a bit confusing twith the time jumping around, but a great story.

So much more than just Jaegers punching Kaiju

I was shocked in the best way from the emotional weight of this story. The characters are fully developed and relatable. There is truly impactful scenes filled with heat.
The mystery probably could have been a little more thought out, but is a small stumble in an otherwise great book.
Also the narrator is one of the best I've listened to. And I was impressed with his female characters voices. Other male narrators have a tendency to make female characters sound flirty all the time. But Kafer realizes his limits and works superbly within them.

Enjoyable Storytelling

I wasn't a fan of the first film but the Netflix anime Pacific Rim: The Black made me rewatch the movie and the second one. This makes the book all that more interesting seeing how things unfolded in between films and anime. Glad I found the back.

So ready for the movie now

The first few chapters I felt a little lost since there was a lot of characters and it's been awhile since I have last seen the first movie. Though I was able to learn pretty quickly and the book really pulled me in. I could easily tell the characters apart the narrator did a good job. Thanks

Ok back story

Is an okay back story but it jumps back and forth between years too much. So much as that you can't forget what year they say it is or else you will be lost.
