Publisher's summary

Before diving into Cecelia Ahern's new sequel, Postscript, discover how Holly's journey began in this New York Times best seller.

Everyone needs a guardian angel! Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mates. But not Holly and Gerry. Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each other's sentences and even when they fought, they laughed. No one could imagine Holly and Gerry without each other. Until the unthinkable happens.

Gerry's death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday looms, Gerry comes back to her. He's left her a bundle of notes, one for each of the months after his death, gently guiding Holly into her new life without him, each note signed "PS, I Love You." As the notes are gradually opened, and as the year unfolds, Holly is both cheered up and challenged. The man who knows her better than anyone sets out to teach her that life goes on. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly finds herself laughing, crying, singing, dancing - and being braver than ever before. Life is for living, she realises - but it always helps if there's an angel watching over you.

Could not get into it.

I tried several times to listen to this book but the thought of 8+ hours just turned me off. Maybe the narration (which was fine, but not my favorite accent) or the simplistic plot that comes right out in the beginning, turned me off. I had to set it aside.

Book vs movie

I absolutely LOVE this movie I watch it multiple times a year but had never read the book. Now I can say I love both. I cried a few times during the book. It’s definitely different then the movie but I enjoyed that it was so different t that it felt like a separate but similar story.

Heartfelt Story

I really enjoyed this heartfelt, funny, sad story. But I have to say I think I liked the movie a bit more.

Powerful Book

This is on of the most powerful books I have listened to. It made me think, it made me cry, and then it made me laugh. I’m listening to the second book (Postscript) now. I would highly recommend these two books.

Character is sweet but pathetic....

I’m not sure what prompted me to read this book other than there was a movie on it and so I thought it might be a good light read. It was indeed a light read but the main character was just so pathetic that I honestly couldn’t finish it.

mixed feelings

i usually like book versions better than movie versions by far - i find them to have more depth and authenticity. i unfortunately saw the movie many times and many years before reading this book.

for the most part i was disappointed. i found it boring and focused on mostly trivial things which seemed like a huge waste of an excellent story. it fell flat for me and it took me a long time to finish it.
BUT … there were a few moments, usually in gerrys moments, that came out of nowhere and choked me up. i found them very moving. unfortunately most of the book didn’t touch on that for me. but glad i finished it for those moments
