Publisher's Summary
America's most elite soldiers are about to uncover one of history's deadliest secrets...
When a raid on an insurgent safe house leads to a clue to decoding one of the world's greatest mysteries, the Voynich manuscript, which reveals a recipe for creating the ultimate biological weapon of mass destruction, Delta operator Jack Sigler must forge a new black ops team to avert catastrophe. While bullets fly, he recruits a group of deadly warriors with dangerous secrets, assigning each member a chess piece call sign and dubbing them Chess Team.
But nothing is what it seems…and no one can be trusted. As the search for the truth about the manuscript moves across Asia and into the darkest reaches of human history, Chess Team must battle enemies beyond comprehension-nightmare creatures of myth and perverse creations of science-to preserve a secret as old as life itself.
In 2009, best-selling novelist Jeremy Robinson launched the adventures of Jack Sigler and Chess Team. Now, learn how it all began! Witness Chess Team's beginning as King, Queen, Bishop, Rook, Knight and the elusive Deep Blue come together to form the only military force smart enough and dangerous enough to face the world's most deadly, most high tech and most monstrous threats.

Decent thriller
If you could sum up Prime in three words, what would they be?
Average sci-tech thriller
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that the science fiction portion had a plausible explanation.
Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?
No one REALLY stuck out, but Bishop was interesting.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, though there were some cringe-worthy parts where you just wanted to slap characters.
Any additional comments?
I listened to this book because I ended up downloading a book that came later in the series by mistake and figured I should listen to an earlier entry to gain some sort of context. It worked for that, but as a starter of a series it was a tad weak.
Good "popcorn flick"-style read, but nothing too deep.

I enjoyed the military aspects and the science fiction elements. The inclusion of real experimental military tech, like air to land extraction was awesome.

Everything for good thriller/adventure/military
This is definitely my kind of book. It has everything that makes a really good thriller/adventure/military read. I loved the added mythology angle that was backed up by real sites. The science angle was believable and a the human experimentation added to the spine tingling parts.
The action starts with the first page and you hardly have time to breath between pages. Robinson takes the reader on a rocket ride of adventure, treachery, treason and death. Each of his characters has special talents. Melding them into a fighting team is King's (Jack) job. In this story you get a lot of background about each team member.
How and why the "Chess Team" was formed. Why Jack chose each name. Where Stan got his Desert Eagles. The first time Jack and Zelda met and what happened. How he won her respect and the rest of the teams. The bonds they formed with each other to become the fighting unit they are.
Their first mission is to rescue a scientist who can translate an ancient manuscript. She has been kidnapped by unknown persons. The Chess Team follows the bad guys from Afghanistan to Iran and finally to France. They fight the Chinese tong, mutated humans, and unspeakable horrors. Finally in France they face the end of all life and maybe, the end of the planet.
This is my first book by Robinson but not my last. I have already got his other Chess Team books on my "to get" list. I wish they were all audio books narrated by Jeffery Kafer. He has a very pleasing voice and gives life to the characters. He gets the dialogue between the team just perfect. Sometimes too perfect. LOL.
The production of the audio was perfect. No static, dead spots, or skips. Everything was professional and well recorded.
If you have read any of Jeremy Robinson Chess Team books you HAVE to read this one. The start of it all.

Just horrible
This book is pretty awful: absurd premises, very corny dialogue, flat characters, and very choppy in terms of the flow of the story. The main characters even change names a few times, depending on the call signs of the mission they are involved in

I still remember years ago when I read the novel version of Prime it became one of my favorite action military novels. Now that I've listened to audio I have to say it's even better to fill mods of the chacthers has there pull into strange and mythical situations of human history. Terrible fantasy land
Do you like your books with zombies, magic, and the secret of life all introduced within a matter of hours? If so, this book is for you. I, personally, do not. Jeremy Robinson impressed me with Infinity and he and Ellis do at least a serviceable job with the characters here, but they add an absolutely absurd plot into the mix. I can buy one, maybe two, far out things but this is just too much. I made it to hour ~9 of ~10 before I has to stop.

Quite interesting story. A bit shallow and Hollywoodish. Performance of narrator very good in my opinion. I will however check out other books in the series cause I enjoyed it enough and I'm still interested. Would I recommend it? Hard to say. It might not be for everybody. If you are looking for a bit more ambitious read then give it a pass.
