An interesting world building!

An interesting story with a well developed world building.
I found myself immersed in this audio from the very first chapter.
I am looking forward to listening to the other books in this series.

Not a Children’s book

This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author and I would like to listen to more in this series. I DO NOT agree this is a Children’s book. There are quite violent scenes, references to rape and disembowelment, cannibalism, etc. I would suggest mature teen and above. The rest of the book falls within YA. It is an uncomplicated listen.
The book itself I found to be enjoyable. The idea of three types of shifters, the school and hidden shifters was interesting. Also, the shifters were not limited to canines.

This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Priscilla Finch ) and I would listen to another. Her cadence is one who reads, not performs so it kept me from getting deep into the book. Her character voices are subtly different but there is not much variation in tone or expression.

There are no explicit sex scenes, there is described violence. I think there was swearing but can’t say for sure now. I do not agree this is a kids book. There are quite violent scenes, references to rape and disembowelment, cannibalism, etc. I would suggest mature teen and above.

got to love shapeshifters

"I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review."

Found this book highly entertaining, logic of difference of shapeshifters and werewolves well explained. That covered, loved the characters, they were very real with very real problems, worries and happiness. Bullying episodes felt real, I remember those as a kid. Lots of very real situations of many types in the book, and all were heart tuggingly real.

The bad guy found very real, very bad and true to how I view badness, totally out for himself -- spoiler alert, the good guys, or most of them win finally. Loved the story, listening to it again.

Narrator was an excellent choice for this book, pulled you into the story.

Narrated by Priscilla Finch
Summary:
Miri discovers she’s a shapeshifter. She can take the form of a cat, but only if she has a charm her grandmother bestowed upon her. Little does she know, somebody else wants her charm and that power, and he wants it very badly.

Additional Comments:
- Likeable characters. You don’t get to know much about Miri, but that might be on purpose to leave room for growth later.
- Plot is predictable but still enjoyable.
- Decent narrator.
- I thought there’d be a little more fanfare over Miri discovering she’s a shapeshifter.
- The middle kind of turns into a Harry Potter-eque thing where Miri tries to figure out her powers at the magical school.
- Interesting world with a lot of room for expansion.
- Content warnings: A few mild curse words. There’s quite a bit of violence. It’s glossed over but there’s talk of rape, mind control, seduction, really brutal beatings, murder, eating kids, etc.

Conclusion:
If there’d been a tad less violence, I would highly recommend the book to middle schoolers, but as is, I’d say high school or older. Otherwise, the book has a lot of charm and cool worldbuilding.

Welcome to the world of P.A.W.S.

Miri begins to discover who she truly is when she receives a special charm necklace from her omama. A whole new world is opened up to her.

Debbie Manber Kupfer has done a fantastic job of setting the stage for this series. I’ve really enjoyed being introduced to all of the characters and their abilities. I think this is going to be a magical series.

There were some inconsistencies in the audio production. For the most part, Priscilla Finch did a great job, but there were some parts where you could tell things were recorded at different times and pieced together.

A Girl's Coming Of Age Story

This book was interesting and creative. The first chapter begins with a protagonist known as Miri who is ten years old. Soon the tale jumps ahead three years to when she finds out about the magic in the charm. Some more time passes and then Miri enters into the underground society located in St. Louis. I enjoyed this book, but I want to mention that there are some inconsistencies in the story's content as to whether it should be for younger children or not, as this book does present some more mature themes in its pages. Priscilla Finch's narration is fine; however, there are a few times when the volume spontaneously changes for no apparent reason. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Enjoyable surprise

I am not usually into the shifter/werewolf genre but love cats, so I thought I'd give P.A.W.S. a try. Glad I did! MC is a cat shifter, but there are plenty of other shifter types to go around & some surprisingly unique ones. I am looking forward to the next in the series. Reduced one star for distracting uneven audio in several places, but still well worth the listen. Thank you Ms. Kupfer for such an interesting world.

Paws pulls you in! Looking forward book 2 already!!

ts a great story, well written. No empty filler words that go nowhere. I’m sure you know what I mean (2 pages to say there’s dirty on the ground)! This author is not one of those! Her story pulls you in. I found myself rooting for Miri to escape her pursuers. The author brings forth every emotion. where some authors try to wrench out 1 emotion from you. She effortlessly brings out most if not all of them. However, she doesn’t push the emotion so hard you want to close the book. Instead it made me more invested and wanting to know how it would turn out. I can’t wait to listen to book 2! There are 4 books so far in the series!

Great Read for YA Shifter lovers of all ages

Miri comes from a long line of family shifters. Her mom is not part of that line since Miri's omama gave the special amulet to Miri. Her father is the big bad wolf.
Miri goes to school with other paranormal beings and is being taught about her new form and possible powers.
Very good story. Especially if you need a little break from more adultish reads. Will continue the series when I need those breaks again.
Narrator did an excellent job especially with the spells and singing.
I received the audiobook for free from StoryOrigin in exchange for my honest review.

What a lovely coming of age story of a shifter.

What a lovely coming of age story of a girl who finds she can shape shift to a cat. Mira is given a cat charm to wear to protect her then the grandmother sadly passes away. Growing up in a boarding school with very few friends and bullies at every corner. She escapes from them by becoming a cat. Not knowing how to control her gift she is found by P.A.W.S.. Who guide her in controlling her gift and finding just like herself. The story in well written, characters believable. The narrator is very good. Enjoyed the story. Great for YA readers.

Okay

Title: P.A.W.S
Author: Debbie Manber Kupfer
Format: Audio
Narrator: Priscilla FInch
Genre: YA, Paranormal (Shifters)
Standalone: Yes
Part of a Series: Book 1 P.A.W.S. series
POV: Multiple but mostly Miri
Steam Level: Clean - some kissing
3/5

The premise of this book is fun, the execution, not so much. I found it a bit slow and boring. Debbie Manber Kupfer created a world that has a ton of potential and could explode into many stories with multiple types of animal shifters. Maybe the narrator didn't do this book justice of maybe it was a slow as it seemed but P.A.W.S. fell flat to me.

I received this audiobook for free from StoryOrigin. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Miri wakes up with her grandmother's cat charm

Miri wakes up one morning with her grandmother's cat charm, and realises that she's now all alone. Though her uncle and aunt take her in, they are clearly not happy about changing their lifestyle to look after a child so they ship her off to boarding school where she is just as miserable as she was with them. Luckily the charm is magical and unlocks a potential in her that she never knew about. Then comes P.A.W.S. the Partnership for Animagi, Werewolves, and Shapeshifters who take her in and that's when the drama really starts.
I found the book reads as quite young, but it has some very adult themes.
I liked the voice of the narration, it suited Miri well, but the reading wasn't very smooth and there were lots of weird pauses which made it hard to stay with the story.
