    On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great mercy to David my father, and have made me king in his place. Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?” Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.”

    II Chronicles 1:7-12 NKJV

    Jonah 2

    New International Version

    2 1 [a]From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said:

    “In my distress I called to the Lord,
        and he answered me.
    From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help,
        and you listened to my cry.

    3 You hurled me into the depths,
        into the very heart of the seas,
        and the currents swirled about me;
    all your waves and breakers
        swept over me.

    4 I said, ‘I have been banished
        from your sight;
    yet I will look again
        toward your holy temple.’

    5 The engulfing waters threatened me,[b]
        the deep surrounded me;
        seaweed was wrapped around my head.

    6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
        the earth beneath barred me in forever.
    But you, Lord my God,
        brought my life up from the pit.

    7 “When my life was ebbing away,
        I remembered you, Lord,
    and my prayer rose to you,
        to your holy temple.

    8 “Those who cling to worthless idols
        turn away from God’s love for them.

    9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,
        will sacrifice to you.
    What I have vowed I will make good.
        I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”

    10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

    The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord. Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.” Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.”
    Jeremiah 1:1‭-‬2‭, ‬4‭-‬12 NKJV
